20 Best ‘The Purge’ Costume Ideas 2021

Who could have guessed that, when The Purge came out in 2013, it would end up spawning a franchise that lasted five movies and a TV series. And in that time the franchise has been able to explore themes of good and evil, issues of class — and so, so many scary masks. With the newest installment, The Forever Purge, and its thematically appropriate July 4 weekend release date, there are a whole new set of frightening looks. Maybe it’s time to revisit the idea of a wearing a Purge Halloween costume this October 31.

Whether you go for a costume inspired by the new movie — and who knew rabbits could be so bone-chillingly terrifying? — or want to revisit one of the classic, light-up Purge looks, you’ll definitely have a scary Halloween costume. And it’s easy, too, since the masks do most of the work for you. (Though you can probably achieve some of the Purge effects with just Halloween makeup.) Just remember: Even though you’re dressed like you’re in the movie, Halloween isn’t actually The Purge, so you’re still beholden to the law! Don’t let the Halloween masks give you any bad ideas.

Light-Up Purge Mask

When you think about The Purge, you think about this look. This mask is made of PVC and EL cold light wire, so it really stands out against the Halloween darkness (without heating up your face). You can also get them in a bunch of colors and color combos, but our bet is people will be too scared to notice.

‘The Forever Purge’ Rabbit Mask

Then again, as you can see in the trailer for The Forever Purge, the masks for the most recent installment sometimes go in a different direction — more of killer bunny type of thing. Don’t get these mixed up with the Easter decorations.

‘The Forever Purge’ Half-Face Skeleton Mask

The Forever Purge also features someone wearing a half-face mask that looks like a black skeleton — another Halloween prop that can probably find other uses next year.

Cowboy Costume

Party City

Some of the bad guys in The Forever Purge don’t seem to bother with masks at all. They just put some scary face paint on with their cowboy gear and call it a day.

‘The Purge’ TV Series Nun Mask

How can you re-create this look from the TV adaptation of The Purge? This mask, with its upside-down mouth, seems one-of-a-kind, but we found something on the same order — a mask that has the signature LED look, too. You can add your own fake blood to make it look that much more similar.

Nun Costume

And then, of course, you can get this creepy nun habit to go around the mask. You can also re-use it next year if you want to go as the main villain from The Nun.

‘The First Purge’ Horned Mask

One of the partygoers in The First Purge has a mask with a long nose and ram horns. This isn’t exactly it — it’s almost too nice-looking to be a true Purge mask — but it was the closest we could find.

‘The Purge: Election Year’ Statue of Liberty Headband

This famous image from The Purge: Election Year means it looks even more sinister if you add a Statue of Liberty crown to your standard purge mask.

Or you could buy this set, which has the blood spatter already on it for you. You don’t even need to make fake blood.

‘The Purge: Election Year’ Statue of Liberty Costume

Round out your Purge-style Lady Liberty costume by adding a robe and torch. The crown comes included, too.

‘The Purge: Election Year’ Uncle Sam Mask

Don’t forget about Uncle Sam. He wants YOU (to get people to shake in their boots). And you will with this replica Uncle Sam mask.

California Costumes

Your costume is extra impressive if you can pull off the whole scary Uncle Sam suit.

‘The Purge: Election Year’ Kiss Me Mask

You can dress up like “The Candy Girl” and wear this classic Purge: Election Year mask out on Halloween, but don’t be surprised if no one, in fact, comes close to kissing you.

‘The Purge: Anarchy’ God Mask

Trick or Treat Studios

It’s amazing how just a few tweaks to a white mask — a little grime, a scary word — can make it so terrifying. You can be just as frightening with your own “God” mask.

‘The Purge” Grinning Mask

Forum Novelties

This style of grinning mask is for all of you remember the moment you first saw it in the indelible trailer for the first Purge movie. Wear it with or without a blonde wig.

Barbed Wire Baseball Bat

Fun World

Don’t forget your accessory! This fake also doubles as a great Walking Dead costume prop, in case you change your mind last minute.

Hooded Robe Cloak

Want to make your mask look extra creepy? Throw on a cloak, you’ll get some extra scares with your masking popping out.

White Oxford Shirt

Amazon Essentials

You can pair your purge mask with just about anything. But a plain, over-sized white shirt sets your purge costume in every day life, making it almost more scary. Plus, fake blood shows up the best on white.

Tatuo Women Stockings

If you don’t feel like dealing with admittedly messy fake blood, these stockings come pre-stained.
