$575,000 Homes in Massachusetts, Louisiana and Georgia

This house is in the Forest Park Heights Historic District, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. It was designed by G. Wood Taylor, the architect of a number of grand estates in the area, for Frank L. Brigham, the president of a clothing company.

Forest Park, a green space of more than 700 acres, is less than half a mile away, putting the house within walking distance of a rose garden, a skating rink and a zoo. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, one of the city’s biggest attractions, is five minutes away by car. Driving to Hartford, Conn., takes half an hour; Boston is about 90 minutes away.

Size: 6,861 square feet

Price per square foot: $83

Indoors: A paved path leads from the sidewalk to the front door, set in a covered porch.

The sunny foyer has hardwood floors and white-painted wooden detailing. To the left is a formal living room with a fireplace, a built-in window seat and more white-painted woodwork.

To the right of the entry is a formal dining room with another window seat, another fireplace and a candelabra-style chandelier. A laundry room that was once a pantry separates the dining room from the spacious kitchen, which has windows facing the front and sides of the property.

Also on this level are a powder room; a screened porch to the side of the house; and a covered porch in back.

From the foyer, a grand staircase leads to the upper levels. The primary bedroom, on the second floor, has a fireplace and windows overlooking the neighborhood. Next door is a bathroom with a combined tub and shower. A guest room and another full bathroom are on the other side of the primary bathroom.

Across the hall is a third bedroom, with a sitting area and a fireplace. This bedroom and three others on the second floor share a bathroom off the hallway, with a double vanity and hardwood floors.

The third floor is divided into two spaces: on one side, there are two more bedrooms and a full bathroom; on the other side is unfinished attic space.

Outdoor space: The screened porch at the side of the house and the covered porch in back are large, with enough space for tables, chairs and a barbecue setup. The yard is landscaped with grass and a few mature trees. The detached carriage house now serves as a garage that holds two cars.

Thanks to efforts by the previous and current owners, who worked to maintain original details like the gingerbread trim on the facade and the fireplaces, this house won an award from the city’s Historic District Landmarks Commission in 2001. The roof is new, as are the energy-efficient windows.

The property is half a block from Esplanade Avenue, which runs from the Mississippi River to the 1,300-acre City Park. It is within walking distance of several coffee shops and Kermit’s Tremé Mother-in-Law Lounge, a live-music venue and restaurant serving traditional New Orleans cuisine. The French Quarter is less than 10 minutes away by car; the airport is a 20-minute drive.

Size: 2,016 square feet

Price per square foot: $285

Indoors: The front door — set in a robin’s-egg-blue facade with bright yellow shutters and white trim — opens into a long foyer with a stairway to the second floor. The living room, to the left, has street-facing windows, a fireplace and hardwood floors that continue into a dining room with another fireplace.

The kitchen, at the back of the first floor, was remodeled by the sellers, who added new appliances and a tile backsplash. A powder room with a wooden vanity is also in this part of the house.

The primary bedroom is on the second floor, with a fireplace and two floor-to-ceiling windows; the en suite bathroom has a combined tub and shower. A guest room currently used as a den and home office has access to this bathroom.

Another full bathroom is also in this part of the house, along with a laundry room that has a sink and a stacked washer and dryer.

The third bedroom is off a hallway near the kitchen.

Outdoor space: A brick courtyard enclosed by a wooden fence runs along the side and back of the property, with leafy trees providing shade. The sellers have created two outdoor sitting areas: one at the side of the house, with a small table and chairs; the other, at the back, with two large benches and a table.

Reynoldstown, a neighborhood about two miles from downtown Atlanta, is known for its tree-lined streets and bungalow-style homes, many occupied by young families and independent businesses. This house, like some of its neighbors, has been recently updated, with new paint and a new HVAC system.

The property is about a mile from the shops and restaurants on Memorial Drive, the area’s main drag. It is less than two miles from the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum and from the Freedom Park Bird and Butterfly Garden. Downtown Atlanta is about 20 minutes away by public transit, or a little less by car, depending on traffic.

Size: 1,455 square feet

Price per square foot: $388

Indoors: Wooden steps lead from the front yard to a covered porch with a sitting area facing the street.

The front door opens into a living room with original hardwood floors and French doors that lead to a guest room currently used as a home office.

Through a wide doorway is a dining room with a wrought-iron chandelier. The kitchen beyond has white cabinets, wooden countertops and a center island with a stainless steel sink. The adjacent laundry room has access to the rear deck.

Just off the kitchen are a full bathroom, another bedroom and the primary suite, which has a carpeted walk-in closet and a bathroom with a jetted soaking tub and a separate shower.

Outdoor space: The wooden deck behind the house was recently painted, as was the wooden fence that surrounds it. From there, steps lead down to a stone firepit in the center of the backyard. A storage shed at the back of the yard holds tools and lawn maintenance equipment.
