Members of the Hindi film fraternity visited Lata Mangeshkar’s house on Sunday afternoon after her death. The singer was taken to the intensive care unit on January 8 after testing positive for COVID-19. Lata Mangeshkar was also being treated for pneumonia. Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan along with daughter Shweta Bachchan Nanda, visited Lata Mangeshkar’s house to pay condolences to the singer’s family. Amitabh Bachchan had been a part of many duet songs that were sung by Lata Mangeshkar, among them were Jane Kaise Kab Kahan from the film Shakti, Dekha Ek Khwaab from Silsila, to name a few.

Besides the Bachchans, filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, film producer Bhushan Kumar, actress Shraddha Kapoor, Anupam Kher, lyricist Javed Akhtar and filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar were also pictured at the late singer’s house.

Amitabh Bachchan’s son and actor Abhishek Bachchan paid tribute to Lata Mangeshkar with these words: “Today, we have lost the greatest of all time! We are all left heartbroken and speechless. An irreplaceable loss. Rest in glory Lata ji. Thank you for blessing us with your voice, talent and compassion. We are privileged to have lived in the times of the great Lata Mangeshkar.”

Lata Mangeshkar leaves behind a legacy of musical gems. She had sung in Hindi, Marathi, Bengali and other regional languages. She was honoured with the Bharat Ratna, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award as well as several National and Filmfare Awards. Lata Mangeshkar’s last complete album was for 2004 Bollywood release Veer-Zaara.

Lata Mangeshkar, who was popularly known as the ‘Nightingale of India,’ began singing to support her family after the death of her father Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar 1942. He was a classical singer and theatre actor. In Bollywood, Lata Mangeshkar got her first major break with the song Dil Mera Toda from the 1948 film Majboor. However, her song Aayega Aanewaala from the movie Mahal (1949) became her first major hit.
