Best Routes & Parks to Walk in Athens during Covid

With the quarantine already being part of our lives, it’s a great opportunity to explore the beautiful city of Athens in a different way, taking some time to enjoy walks outdoors in the fresh air or go for a run.

Excursions near Athens are now prohibited, so we should get used to the parks and walking routes!

But what are these places and walking routes in Athens? Where can you enjoy a unique walk in Athens?

Walking routes in Athens

Route Delta Falirou – Marina Alimou

If you are a fan of the sea and the sunset, then this coastal route will amaze you! Start from the Faliro Delta and through the paved road you will find yourself up to Alimos. If the time is right, stop in Floisvos and enjoy a unique sunset that will give you strength to continue your walk for even more kilometers!

On this route you will probably get the chance to meet a few people too – from distance -, as it is one of the most popular walking routes in the capital. If you wish for a less crowded environment, better choose non-peak hours such as early in the morning.

Peiraiki

Another route for sea lovers, starts from Marina Zeas and passes Pasalimani and Kastella. After 5.5 kilometers you will find yourself in Mikrolimano! It is a special and full of sea route that we suggest you do it in the morning, where it probably has the least possible crowd.

Lycabettus

Standing 277 meters above sea level, Lycabettus Hill (sometimes spelt Lykavitos) is the highest point of Athens. You can either walk to the hill or take the funicular that can take you to the top of the hill.

You can enjoy the sunset whilst waiting for the lights of the Acropolis, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Panathenaic Stadium and as well as the Ancient Agora to come on. You will also be reminded that Athens is surrounded by sea with spectacular views across the Aegean.

For nature lovers, photography and sunset, the route of Lycabettus that reaches the church of Agios Georgios, is unique!

Dionysiou Areopagitou Street

Dionysiou Areopagitou street is one of the most classic routes, which many Athenians take every day either for exercise and walking or just to move to work. From Thiseio you head to Makrigianni on a route of about 2 km. Under normal circumstances, you find plenty of tourists there every day, as it’s one of the most attracting places in the city!

Walking parks in Athens

The parks usually offer easier routes, while during the day you will find plenty of people who walk or exercise. In any case we suggest to enjoy your walk only in the sunlight and ideally with another companion.

National Garden

A park in the city center! Just three minutes from the metro of Syntagma, this park is ideal for walking and exercising.

The National Garden of Athens, known for many years and as the Royal Garden, opens every day, except for emergencies (gatherings, protests) from sunrise to sunset was and still is one of the favorite walks of Athenians. The pond with ducks and green chairs around with the “koulouri” seller to feed the ducks, was one of the landmarks. Enjoy the trees and plants that surround you and fill your lungs with oxygen before going out into the hustle and bustle of the city!

Those are only some of the ideas through which you can enjoy the city of Athens in a different way. But what about adding some glamorous touches to this different Athens experience of yours? If you are fond of the idea, there’s always a luxurious Athenian villa available for you to rent. There are plenty of options to choose from, that will offer you the privacy & comfort you wish for.
