Congrats on reaching the final day of the Meatless Challenge! After a week of plant-based deliciousness, you may already have noticed better digestion, glowing skin, improved sleep, and loads of energy. Hopefully, you’ve also realized that going meatless doesn’t have to mean giving up the joy of eating. That’s why today is all about the most joyful part of any celebration meal: dessert.
You’ve heard similar refrains about moderation throughout the week, but it bears repeating. All vegetarian diets are not created equal. You can eat all the carrot cake, packaged vegan brownies and processed goodies you want and call it plant-based, but that wouldn’t do much for your health. One large study found that while a plant-based diet focused on whole grains, fruits and vegetables significantly lowered the risk of cardiovascular disease, a “plant-based” diet that included high-sugar, high-fat, processed foods such as sweets, soda and refined grains had the opposite effect.
Bottom line: Definitely enjoy an occasional delicious plant-based treat! In fact, have one tonight to cap of your week of meatless eating. A couple of suggestions …
