Delhi Metro Red Line was the first Delhi Metro corridor which became operational in 2002
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation took up the infrastructural redevelopment work of 21 stations between Dilshad Garden and Rithala section of the Delhi Metro Red Line, which are amongst the oldest ones on the Delhi Metro network. Recently, 12 out of these 21 stations were redeveloped in which various renovation activities for upgrading station infrastructure were undertaken by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) starting from July 2019. The metro stations being amongst the oldest ones on the network required renovation for providing a better experience to daily metro commuters. According to a statement shared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the major metro stations where the renovation work is almost complete are Jhilmil, Dilshad Garden, Shahdara, Mansarovar Park, Shastri Park, Welcome, etc. The work at the remaining metro stations will be completed by May 2021. The renovation activities completed over 12 metro stations include:
- Replacement or finishing of the exterior façade to maintain the material.
- Retroplating or chemical polishing of station platforms.
- Relaying the dilapidated granite flooring at the concourse and ground level.
- Upgradation of the existing firefighting system
- Relaying and rerouting of the old drainage system which was causing leakages including desilting/cleaning of the circulating area drainage network.
- Internal and external painting of metro stations.
- Improvement of the circulating area and the footpath for aesthetics of station premises.
- New signages as per the latest specifications.
- Replacement of the rolling shutters and fire doors as per requirement
- Painting of the roof trusses and roof sheeting.
- Toilet block and parking area renovation
- LED lighting at metro stations
- Replacement of the analog CCTV cameras with the digital version for clarity
- Renovation of the escalators or the installation of new escalators
- Provision of an insulation sleeve on the catenary wire in the station area
- Installation of bird spikes at various critical points to prevent the OHE tripping
The Delhi Metro Red Line was the first Delhi Metro corridor which became operational in 2002 with the opening of the 8.4 km long Shahdara to Tis Hazari section comprising six metro stations.
