When is Father’s Day 2022?
This year, Father’s Day lands on June 19. Although the date changes every year, an easy way to remember when the celebration will happen is by keeping in mind it always falls on the third Sunday in June. So, in 2021, it was on June 20. The United Kingdom also follows this tradition for Father’s Day, but not for Mother’s Day, which is celebrated in March.
What’s the history of Father’s Day and why is it celebrated in June?
There’s so much history surrounding Father’s Day, but here’s the long and short of it: A woman by the name of Sonora Smart Dodd, who was raised by a single dad, is credited with starting Father’s Day in 1910 after she heard a sermon in church honoring mothers. The following month, she held the first Father’s Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on June 19. While Father’s Day was acknowledged for years, it didn’t become official until 1966 when President Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation honoring fathers and declared the third Sunday of June as Father’s Day.
When is Father’s Day 2023?
