A Spurs player has tested positive, and the regulated contact tracing leaves the team without the eight players the NBA requires.
This is the 25th game the NBA has postponed this season due to COVID-19 protocols. That’s not a small number, but the league has significantly slowed the postponements over the last several weeks. The Spurs-Pistons game is just the third game to be postponed in February. Compared to January, which had 21 total postponements, that’s quite an improvement.
The improvement is likely due to the additional health and safety protocols the NBA and NBPA agreed to in mid-January, most of which centered on player activity. Players could no longer leave the team hotel while they were traveling (except for team activities or emergencies), they could only arrive at the arena three hours before game time, seating charts were required for all team meetings and travel, and players had to wear masks pretty much anytime except for when they’re actually playing.
