NHL Plays: Monday

NHL Plays will highlight the best and the most underrated daily fantasy options among forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.

Please note, these players were chosen early in the day, so make sure to check NBC Sports EDGE’s player news for any lineup changes, injuries and potential changes in the crease for starting goaltenders.

Additionally, it is worth reminding everyone that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 2W, 2D, 2UTIL 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL) and Yahoo has a $200 budget for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 2G).

Don’t forget, for everything NHL, check out NBC Sports EDGE’s Player News, and follow @NBCSEdgeHK and @CoreAbbott on Twitter.

Monday night has eight games on the schedule.

Forwards:

Auston Matthews (Toronto) – C – $9,200 (FanDuel), $9,000 (DraftKings), $36 (Yahoo)

Matthews has racked up 16 goals, eight assists and 48 shots on target during a 13-game point streak. He has earned at least one point in each of his last 16 appearances, but missed one game due to an injury. Matthews has two goals and one assist in his previous two outings versus Calgary.

Kevin Fiala (Minnesota) – W – $6,200 (FanDuel), $6,700 (DraftKings), $20 (Yahoo)

Fiala has four goals and one assist in the last four games following a three-point performance on Saturday against Anaheim. He had two goals and one helper in the contest along with five shots on target. Fiala appears to be heating up again following a sluggish start to the year, which is bad news for opponents of the Wild. Additionally, he has two goals in his previous two matches versus San Jose this season.

Vincent Trocheck (Carolina) – C – $5,800 (FanDuel), $6,200 (DraftKings), $20 (Yahoo)

Trocheck has generated four goals and nine points in his past seven appearances. He has picked up at least one point in each of those outings and he enters Monday night’s action riding a six-game point streak (like Matthews, he also missed one game due to injury to break up his point spree).

Mike Hoffman (St. Louis) – W – $5,800 (FanDuel), $6,300 (DraftKings), $19 (Yahoo)

Hoffman has two goals and seven points in five games going into Monday night’s action. He has three multi-point performances during that span, which includes his last two games. Hoffman can be stacked quite comfortably with Brayden Schenn.

Conor Garland (Arizona) – W – $5,400 (FanDuel), $6,900 (DraftKings), $19 (Yahoo)

Garland has cooled off a bit from his five-game point streak from Jan. 28-Feb. 8, but he has enjoyed a great season and checks in with very good salary cap hits on FanDuel and Yahoo. Garland has one goal and 11 shots on target in two previous contest against Anaheim this year.

Bargain Bin: Johnny Gaudreau (CGY) – W – $5,500 (DraftKings), $21 (Yahoo), Jonathan Huberdeau – W – $5,300 (DraftKings), $23 (Yahoo), Jordan Kyrou (STL) – W – $4,300 (FanDuel), $4,900 (DraftKings), $15 (Yahoo), Dustin Brown (LA) – W – $4,800 (DraftKings), $19 (Yahoo), Sam Reinhart (BUF) – W – $ 5,300 (FanDuel), $4,500 (DraftKings), $18 (Yahoo), Alex Iafallo (LA) – W – $4.900 (FanDuel), $4,700 (DraftKings), $19 (Yahoo), Joe Thornton (TOR) – W – $4,800 (FanDuel), $4,700 (DraftKings), $18 (Yahoo), Andre Burakovsky (COL) – W – $4,700 (FanDuel), $4,000 (DraftKings), $17 (Yahoo)

Defensemen:

Drew Doughty (Los Angeles) – $6,200 (FanDuel), $5,900 (DraftKings), $20 (Yahoo)

Doughty has collected one goal and seven assists during a five-game point streak going into Monday night’s action. He has provided great category coverage, while registering four goals, 15 points, 29 shots, 27 blocks and 21 hits over 16 games this season.

Devon Toews (Colorado) – $4,900 (FanDuel), $5,300 (DraftKings), $17 (Yahoo)

Toews has been a great defense partner for Cale Makar this season, while posting four goals, three assists, 22 shots and 27 blocks in 11 appearances. He is coming off a two-point effort (one goal, one assist) against Vegas on Saturday. Toews has plenty of bang for the buck upside on Monday night.

Bargain Bin: Torey Krug (STL) – $5,300 (FanDuel), $18 (Yahoo), Oliver Ekman-Larsson (ARI) – $4.700 (FanDuel), $6,000 (DraftKings), $15 (Yahoo), Keith Yandle (FLA) – $4,500 (FanDuel), $3,900 (DraftKings), $18 (Yahoo)

Goaltenders:

Semyon Varlamov (New York Islanders) – $8,100 (FanDuel), $8,400 (DraftKings), $41 (Yahoo)

Varlamov has lost his last two outings, but he has bounce-back appeal on Monday if he gets the start against Buffalo. In his last victory, Varlamov stopped 20 of 21 shots in a 3-1 win over the Sabres a week ago. Ilya Sorokin posted a 20-save shutout win against Buffalo last Tuesday and would make for a very puck stopper for Monday’s slate as well.

Darcy Kuemper (Arizona) – $8,000 (FanDuel), $8,200 (DraftKings), $35 (Yahoo)

Kuemper has the potential for a rebound performance between the pipes as well after going (0-1-1) in his past two outings. Arizona will play against a Ducks team that ranks last in the league in goals for per game (1.83). Kuemper has a 1-1-0 record versus Anaheim this season with a 1.53 goals-against average and .925 save percentage. The match he lost was a 1-0 decision back on Jan. 26 when he stopped 23 shots.

Bargain Bin: Jordan Binnington (STL) – $7,400 (FanDuel), $32 (Yahoo) John Gibson (ANH) – $6,700 (FanDuel), $7,600 (DraftKings), Philipp Grubauer – $7,700 (DraftKings), Marc-Andre Fleury $7,600 (DraftKings), $ (Yahoo)
