When the world of fashion loses a great figure, any new discoveries of their ingenuity are as good as gold. And it seems that the late Virgil Abloh left a lot of special projects behind. This week, Abloh’s luxury streetwear brand Off-White announced the arrival of a footwear collection in care of Church’s, designed by Abloh himself. The genderless capsule collection made its debut at Paris Fashion Week last month and showcases Abloh’s affinity for reinterpreting classic designs with new references. And Church’s storied oxfords served as just the right base.

Valentino takes over Toronto’s Type Books

When one thinks of Valentino, the first thing that comes to mind isn’t necessarily books. However, the luxury designer wants to change that with Valentino Collezione Milano: The Narratives. As part of the campaign, they will be taking over the store windows of various independent bookstores across North America, including Toronto’s own Type Books. The display includes Derek McCormack’s most recent read, “Judy Blame’s Obituary: Writings on Fashion and Death.” A must-read and must-visit, to be sure!

This week, Lululemon introduced its debut running shoe. Dubbed Blissfeel, the runners are available in 10 colours and are engineered with energy-filled underfoot foam cushioning, and an upper that sanctions movement. Keep a lookout because three more women’s styles are set to drop this year: cross-training kicks, elevated slides and a supportive training shoe.

Omega and Swatch have joined forces, and they’re taking you to space with MoonSwatch. It’s an innovative take on Omega’s Speedmaster Moonwatch, bringing the Bioceramic timepiece to a new level with provocative colours that haven’t been featured on traditional Omega Speedmaster watches. Mimicking the sun, moon and 9 planets (Pluto, you made it!) of the solar system, this luxury/street brand blend surely classifies as a must-have for your watch collection.

Maguire sets up shop in NYC

Montreal-based, women-led footwear brand Maguire has announced that it will be opening its first international boutique this May. Set within New York City’s upscale Nolita neighbourhood, which is known to have housed some big-brand designers in the past, this new locale is a grand step for the five-year-old independent retailer. And the 1,000 square foot shop will be just steps away from Mejuri’s NYC flagship. It’s perfect proof that Canadian-born brands thrive on the international stage.
