Ola To Deploy ABB Robotics And Automated Solutions At Its Scooter Factory

Ola, one of India’s leading ride-hailing and mobility companies, has announced that it selected ABB as one of its key partners for robotics and automation solutions for its factory in India.

It was a barely a month ago that Ola announced its plans to set up a mega factory for its electric scooter in Tamil Nadu. The plant in Tamil Nadu will be the world’s largest scooter manufacturing facility, which will initially have an annual capacity of 2 million units and will generate 10,000 jobs in the region. Now, Ola has announced that ABB will be one of its key partners for robotics and automation solutions at the plant. The plant is expected to be up and ready before the end of 2021. The Ola mega-factory is also expected to be one of the most automated plants, with about 5,000 robots and automated guided vehicles in use once the factory is fully operational at its full capacity.

ABB will provide automation solutions to the plant’s manufacturing process lines which includes the painting and welding lines. ABB will also deploy robots for battery and motor assembly lines. These include ABB’s “IRB 5500” paint and “IRB 2600” Integrated Dressing robots in its painting and welding lines, and “IRB 6700” robots for assembly and material handling in the battery and motor assembly areas.

Announcing the agreement, Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Group CEO, Ola, “We are delighted to bring on board ABB, a global leader in robotics, machine automation and digital services, as a key supplier and partner for robotics and automation solutions that will be deployed at our scooter mega-factory. ABB robots will be digitally integrated into Ola’s AI-enabled electric scooter manufacturing facility where the core purpose will be to optimise robot performance, productivity and product quality. The use of ABB’s robots and automation solutions will ensure remote digital connectivity and monitoring of the robots that will work in tandem with Ola’s proprietary AI engine and tech stack.
