PlayStation VR2 Will Arrive in February for $550

Gamers won’t have to wait too much longer for Sony’s follow-up to its first virtual reality headset, as the PlayStation VR2 finally has an official release date. The gaming device will launch on February 22, 2023 with a starting price of $550 (€599.99, £529.99), the company announced in a blog post on Wednesday.

The PS VR2 will arrive more than six years after its predecessor, and includes a slew of upgrades and redesigned hardware. Sony first shared details of the next-gen headset in January 2022, noting that the VR2 will have sensors to detect eye motions and integrated headset cameras for controller tracking. It also comes with 4K HDR, 3D sound and an OLED display with a 110-degree field of view that aims to create a more immersive experience. According to an October Bloomberg report, the company ordered 2 million units in efforts to attach promotions for the VR2 to the PS5, which is the only gaming console that can be tethered to the headset.

On Wednesday, Sony also dropped a list of 11 new games that will be available at launch, increasing its anticipated lineup to at least 20 titles. In addition to Resident Evil Village and Horizon Call of the Mountain, VR2 players can also dive into The Dark Pictures: Switchback VR, Crossfire: Sierra Squad, The Light Brigade, Cosmonious High, Cities VR – Enhanced Edition, Pistol Whip VR, Jurassic World Aftermath Collection, Zenith: The Last City, Hello Neighbor: Search and Rescue, After the Fall and Tentacular.

While the $550 base price for the PS VR2 includes the headset, sense controllers and stereo headphones, you also have the option to purchase a Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle for $600. Controller charging stations are sold separately for $50.

Customers in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg can visit the PlayStation webstore to register for pre-orders, which will be open on Nov. 15. To learn more about how the VR2 looks, feels and operates, check out our hands-on demo of the gaming device
