Alison Buckley, vice president for enrollment management and student affairs at Connecticut State Community Colleges, has been named president of Ulster County Community College, in the State University of New York system.
Butch Caston, interim vice president for student affairs and interim provost and vice president for academic affairs at Delta State University, in Mississippi, has been named interim president. He will succeed William LaForge.
Jim Cawley, a former lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania, has been named president of Rosemont College. He will succeed Jason Boyers.
Mung Chiang, dean of engineering and executive vice president for strategic initiatives at Purdue University at West Lafayette, has been named president. He will succeed Mitch Daniels, who will step down at the end of this year.
Lawrence M. Drake II, dean of the College of Business and Entrepreneurship at Bethune-Cookman University, in Florida, has been named interim president of the university.

Moez Limayem, dean of the Muma College of Business at the University of South Florida, has been named president of the University of North Florida. He will succeed Pamela Chally, who has served as interim president since September 2021.

Jayathi Y. Murthy, dean of the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science at the University of California at Los Angeles, has been named president of Oregon State University.
Eloy Ortiz Oakley, chancellor of the California Community Colleges, has been named president and chief executive of the College Futures Foundation.
Jesse Peters, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Fort Lewis College, in Colorado, has been named president of Western Oregon University.
Aswani Volety, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Elon University, in North Carolina, has been named chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. He will succeed Jose Sartarelli, who will retire in June.
Helen Zaikina-Montgomery, interim president since May 2021 of Leech Lake Tribal College, in Minnesota, has been named to the post permanently.
Resignations
Lawrence S. Bacow, president of Harvard University since 2018, plans to step down on June 30, 2023.
George Burnett, president of the University of Phoenix since February, has resigned.
Damián J. Fernández, president of Eckerd College, in Florida, will step down this summer after two years in office.
John Kelly, president of Florida Atlantic University, plans to step down at the end of the year.
Mirta Martin, president of Fairmont State University, in West Virginia, has been removed from her position by the Board of Governors. Diana Phillips, provost and vice president for academic affairs, has been named acting president.
Joyce McConnell, president of Colorado State University at Fort Collins since 2019, will step down at the end of the month.
James Mellichamp, president of Piedmont University, in Georgia, will step down. The Faculty Senate issued a vote of no confidence in May.
Judy K. Sakaki, president of Sonoma State University, will step down at the end of July.
Retirements
Earl D. Brooks II, president since 2000 of Trine University, in Indiana, plans to retire in May 2023.

Roxane Gay, an author and former associate professor of English at Purdue University, has been named Gloria Steinem Endowed Chair in Media, Culture, and Feminist Studies at Rutgers University at New Brunswick.
Ocean Vuong, a poet and author who received a MacArthur Fellowship in 2019, will become a professor of creative writing at New York University after serving as a distinguished writer in residence.
Retirements
Eric Kandel, a professor of brain science, co-director of the Zuckerman Institute, and founding director of the Kavli Institute for Brain Science at Columbia University, plans to retire on August 31.
DEATHS
Sophie Freud, a professor of psychology at Simmons College (now University) and granddaughter of Sigmund Freud, died on June 3. She was 97.
The Rev. Michael J. Himes, a former professor of theology at Boston College, died on June 10. He was 75.
David Jarmolowicz, an associate professor of applied behavioral science at the University of Kansas, died on May 22. He was 45.
Browne C. Lewis, dean of the School of Law at North Carolina Central University, died on June 2. Information on her age was not released.
Samella Lewis, an artist and former head of the art department at Florida A&M University, died on May 27. She was 99. Lewis was the first Black woman to receive a Ph.D. in fine arts and art history at Ohio State University.
John Merriman, a professor of history at Yale University, died on May 22. He was 75. Merriman wrote several books on French history, including The Dynamite Club: How a Bombing in Fin-de-Siècle Paris Ignited the Age of Modern Terror (2009).
Sharon Oster, the first woman to become a tenured professor in the School of Management at Yale University and the first woman to serve as dean of the school, died on June 20. She was 73.
Anthony O. Parker, president of Albany Technical College since 1995, died on June 6.
Evelyn Perloff, a professor emerita of psychology in the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, died on May 26. She was 101. Perloff also served as the sole woman professor in the psychology department at Purdue University in the 1960s.
Rosemary Radford Ruether, a theologian who taught at Howard University and Harvard Divinity School, died on May 21. She was 85.
Constantine J. Sakles, a retired professor of psychiatry and pharmacology at the University of Maryland Medical School, died on May 25. He was 87.
