The Toronto Raptors signed undrafted center Freddie Gillespie to a 10-day contract, according to Blake Murphy and Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Gillespie is a 23-year-old center who played two seasons at Baylor before joining the Memphis Hustle in the G-League this season. He started his collegiate career in Division-III but showed great improvement once he got to Baylor — being named Most Improved Player for the Big-12 while making the All-Defensive team. In his 15 appearances in the G-League, Gillespie averaged 10.5 points and 10.3 rebounds with 2.3 blocks in 28 minutes per game on 57 percent shooting.

The 6-foot-9 center profiles as a shot-blocking energy player who mostly looks to impact the game with his size. He has good athleticism to go with a 7-foot-4 wingspan, and he is quick and nimble laterally for a frontcourt player which might allow him to survive switches onto smaller players.

It’s unclear if the Raptors will keep him beyond his tryout, as the Raptors had already cycled through Donta Hall and Henry Ellenson out of the G-League thus far, but Gillespie could address an area of need for the team if he seizes the opportunity.
