Denver, Colorado’s capital city, is located among some of the tallest peaks and most breathtaking views in the United States. Although the city itself has seen massive population growth in recent years and offers its own lively culture with no shortage of activities for native residents and tourists alike, there are endless opportunities for fun just a short drive outside of the city. Whether you’re a Denver local looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life or headed to Colorado for a procedure at ThriveMD and looking for a fun weekend getaway while you’re nearby, here are 3 awesome day trips you can do from Denver.

Estes Park

One of the most popular tourist destinations in the United States is Estes Park. Home of the Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park is located just under 2 hours from Downtown Denver and is home to some of the most gorgeous scenery in the entire country. Camp under the stars in RMNP, take a hike or go climbing, or enjoy some local shopping and dining at one of the town’s many retail establishments. For movie buffs, Estes Park is a noteworthy destination because of the Stanley Hotel, aka the real-life hotel where Stephen King stayed prior to writing The Shining, and the inspiration for the movie’s iconic hotel setting.

Eastern Plains

Whether you’re an animal lover or just looking to get away from the mountains for a moment, the Eastern Plains is the perfect destination for a short getaway outside of Denver. Located about 45 minutes from the city, the Eastern Plans are home to the Wild Animal Sanctuary, which allows animals like lions, bears, and wolves to roam freely wmong the area’s beautiful and spacious plains.

Great Sand Dunes National Park

Located just under 4 hours away from the heart of Denver, Great Sand Dunes National Park is admittedly a fairly far distance to travel for a short getaway – but the beautiful scenery and quaint towns that you pass along the way make the drive worth it. At the park, visitors can marvel at massive sand dunes and even go surfing among them! If sand surfing isn’t your thing, there are still beautiful trails, stunning scenic views, and quaint spots that are perfect for camping, making the Great Sand Dunes one of Colorado’s best destinations for any traveler.
