09 Jul When You Travel, Be Sure to Bring These Comforts of Home
Business travel can feel like real work. In fact, it is. But there is something wonderful about travel that should always feel wonderful. It is not supposed to ever be a chore. Travel is a privilege. Even when it is not a vacation, it is still a cut above the ordinary. The world is full of people who would be glad to have your problems if your problem is that you have to travel too much for business. People who complain about traveling need to learn to read the room and come to terms with their extreme privilege. People who complain about the experience of flying at the company’s expense are the worst. Don’t be one of them.
That said, there is no reason why you can’t make your travels even more comfortable and pleasant. There are plenty of things you can bring with you that will give you more of the comforts of home when you are away. It might mean that you have to pay the expense of taking an extra bag. That’s fine. It is totally worth it when you have the luxury of packing certain things. What you bring with you will largely depend on how long you will be away. Here are a few of the things you shouldn’t leave home without:
Your Favorite Coffee Ritual
Let’s face it: Your morning cup is not just a drink; it’s a ritual. Some people cannot enjoy a cup of coffee that takes fewer than 10 steps to prepare. At that point, it isn’t about the coffee. And there is nothing wrong with that. The great thing is that all of those rituals can be done while traveling. You already know how to make iced coffee just the way you love it. There is no reason why you can’t have that same delicious, refreshing, and energizing treat while you are away from home.
It doesn’t matter how many stars your hotel has. The coffee served in the room is not going to be as great as the coffee you make yourself with all 10 of those steps you use in the process. You can always go to the super fancy restaurant and order coffee with your $50 breakfast. While it would be good, it wouldn’t be your special happy place. Don’t settle. Bring your cold brew pour over kit and live the good life.
Hair Care Products
Sure, the hotel has shampoo, conditioner, and a hair dryer. Go ahead and use it if you don’t really care about your hair. Of course it is obvious that you do because you dropped $200 on a hair dryer and we don’t even want to calculate how much you spent on hair care products over the last few years. It’s okay. This is not price shaming. It is an acknowledgement that your hair is very important and is worth taking care of. So be sure to maintain your hair even when you travel.
Your hair doesn’t take a break just because you are away from home. That fussy, demanding, and absolutely fabulous hair style will not treat you well if you neglect it. While you’re at it, be sure to bring the hair-removal kit for face, arms, and legs. Bring the skin care products. And for goodness sake, don’t forget the suntan lotion. The best hair day will be ruined by sunburn. Don’t just be fabulous; be safe.
Bring Your Own Set-top Box
The Amazon Fire Stick 4K is so cheap that you can get one for home and for your travel bag. If that is how you are used to enjoying all your shows, why not take it with you and plug directly into the TV where you are staying? The best feature of the product is that it is tiny. So fitting into a small, cramped bag is still a breeze. Of course, if you are more of an Apple person, the Apple TV also travels well. It is just a lot more expensive and much bigger. But when dealing with such small sizes to begin with, bigger is relative.
Traveling light is great if you can take everything you need for a great trip. It might be worth it to travel a little less light if it means having your favorite coffee ritual, your trusted hair care products, and your favorite shows while on the go.
