$1.4 Million Homes in California

[ad_1]

In 1932, the Summer Olympic Games were held in Los Angeles, and athletes were housed in small homes constructed especially for that purpose in the View Park neighborhood. Later, the unfurnished structures were sold for $140 dollars each. This one was moved to Eagle Rock, where it served as a clubhouse for scouting troops. The sellers, who bought it in 2021, did a full renovation, installing a new kitchen and bathrooms, copper plumbing, a Nest thermostat and a tankless water heater.

The house is a little over half a mile from a commercial corridor on Colorado Boulevard with a Trader Joe’s. Downtown Los Angeles is a half-hour drive.

Size: 1,500 square feet

Price per square foot: $930

Indoors: The hand-carved mahogany front door opens directly into a living room with casement windows and engineered-wood floors. This space flows into a kitchen with quartz counters, a built-in banquette, a center island that seats four and new appliances, including a dedicated wine refrigerator. Also in this part of the house is a powder room with brightly colored wallpaper and a custom-made concrete sink.

A hallway off the kitchen leads to the bedrooms. The primary suite, at the far end, has a wood-paneled accent wall, more engineered-wood floors and a bathroom with a double vanity and a walk-in shower. The two guest rooms are off the main hall; they share a hallway bathroom with a combined tub and shower.

Outdoor space: A concrete patio in the front yard is big enough to hold a dining table and a separate lounge area. A copper tub sits next to the fence, near fruit-bearing trees and a row of garden boxes. The finished garage, could be converted into an accessory dwelling unit.

Taxes: $17,436 (estimated)

Various restaurants are within a 10-minute walk; a Safeway grocery store, a gourmet food market and several coffee shops are also nearby.

The house is zoned for Chabot Elementary School, about half a mile away. It is about a 10-minute drive from downtown Berkeley and the University of California, Berkeley.

On the other side of the dining room is an updated kitchen with new stainless steel appliances and room for a small table near glass doors that open to a deck.

The primary bedroom is off the living room, with room for a king-size bed; the en suite bathroom has a combined tub and shower.
