$1.4 Million Homes in California

In 1932, the Summer Olympic Games were held in Los Angeles, and athletes were housed in small homes constructed especially for that purpose in the View Park neighborhood. Later, the unfurnished structures were sold for $140 dollars each. This one was moved to Eagle Rock, where it served as a clubhouse for scouting troops. The sellers, who bought it in 2021, did a full renovation, installing a new kitchen and bathrooms, copper plumbing, a Nest thermostat and a tankless water heater.

The house is a little over half a mile from a commercial corridor on Colorado Boulevard with a Trader Joe’s. Downtown Los Angeles is a half-hour drive.

Indoors: The hand-carved mahogany front door opens directly into a living room with casement windows and engineered-wood floors. This house is in the Rockridge neighborhood, about half a block from College Avenue and less than half a mile from the Rockridge BART station, which makes for a half-hour commute into San Francisco or a 15-minute ride into downtown Oakland. Various restaurants are within a 10-minute walk; a Safeway grocery store, a gourmet food market and several coffee shops are also nearby.

The house is zoned for Chabot Elementary School, about half a mile away. It is about a 10-minute drive from downtown Berkeley and the University of California, Berkeley.

Redondo Beach, the southernmost of three South Bay beach cities, offers an easy commute to commercial districts around Los Angeles: Downtown Los Angeles is 45 minutes away; Culver City is half an hour away; and Century City is a 40-minute drive. But thanks to the beach nearby, the atmosphere is relaxed.

This house is less than a mile from the water and the restaurants near the Redondo Beach Pier. Redondo Union High School and Beryl Heights Elementary School are five minutes away by car.

Outdoor space: A mature tree stands in a corner of the backyard, offering shade to a lawn big enough to hold a barbecue and a dining set. A long gated driveway leads to a detached one-car garage at the back of the lot.
