Mercedes-Benz launched the 2021 E-Class in India and prices start at ₹ 63.6 lakh. The new E-Class debuts with comprehensive changes on exterior styling and design, significant interior updates along with the integration of latest new-generation NTG 6 telematics and of course the MBUX system, which makes it a connected car. Prices of the E-Class top out at ₹ 80.9 lakh (ex-showroom India) The E-Class boasts of the most spacious rear cabin in the segment owing to its long wheelbase of 3079 mm. At 5075mm it’s long too and Mercedes-Benz has stuck to bringing the long wheelbase version to the country because it has received a lot of praise and of course, in the E-Class, it is all about being chauffeur driven.

Martin Schwenk, MD & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India commented, “We have completely reimagined the new E-Class by making it more dynamic, more fun to drive and more tech enriched than ever before. We are confident that with our balanced variant strategy, the new E-Class will strongly appeal to not only the chauffeur driven luxury dweller, but also to the driving enthusiast who wants a sporty and fun car to drive around, without compromising on any of the luxury features.”

The 2021 E-Class does not get the typical twin headlight and LED DRL treatment. In fact, the single LED DRL now looks great and the bulges on the bonnet give it an aggressive look. The new LED headlamps too add to the sleek look. The rear has been newly designed and the new split tail light design gives it a fresh appeal. The quarter glass at the rear is inspired by the Mercedes-Maybach.

The inside comes with plush Artico leather dashboard and open pore wood trims at the front and rear. But it’s the rear seat that gets your attention as they recline to up to 37 degrees. You also get convenience features like a Burmester surround Sound system, panoramic sunroof, wireless charger among others. The cabin experience has been enhanced with the integration of new Mercedes-Benz User Experience infotainment system. MBUX enriches user experience by incorporating a powerful computer, brilliant screens and graphics, a customizable display, learning-capable software, and “Hey Mercedes” voice assistance with natural language recognition. You get the digital cockpit with dual 12.3-inch display screens and that’s something we’ve seen on other cars from the company already.

But let’s get to the heart of the matter. The engines. Mercedes-Benz will offer the E-Class in 3 engine options – a 2-litre petrol, a 2-litre diesel and a 3-litre diesel in an AMG line. While the 2-litre petrol churns out 194 bhp, the 2-litre diesel pushes out 192 bhp. The more powerful 3-litre diesel is good enough for 282 bhp.
