What does a maid of honor do on the wedding day?

There aren’t any set rules to what a MOH has to do. However, there are some traditional duties she’ll can take on, including planning the bachelorette party, giving a toast at the reception and generally helping the bride, especially the day of the wedding.

Are you supposed to get your maid of honor an extra gift?

You can, but you don’t have to. However, if you want to treat her a bit more, there are a few options. “Another way to say thank you is to cover a beauty cost that the person of honor is expected to have on that wedding day or the day before,” she says. This is an especially thoughtful idea as wedding makeup is increasingly expensive these days.

Gift experiences are another good idea. “Do a wine tasting together or have a bonding moment. You must be close if this person is one of honor,” she says. “Plus, an experience is a way to make a memory and enjoy it yourself, too.”

How much does a maid of honor gift typically cost?

The price of a luxury gift, on top of your other wedding expenses (including mother of the bride gifts and not to mention bridesmaid gifts), could be a concern, but not to worry “the right price point is one that feels comfortable,” Forrest says. “Anywhere from $10 – $100 might be right. If you’re covering a special service like a hair appointment or nail appointment, then the cost is going to be a bit more, but if you’re giving a delicious candle and bath salts, that might cost under $30. I truly believe it is about the thought and the personalization of the gift over the amount of money spent.”
