If you have little kids in the house, you know one thing for sure — it’s not officially Christmas season until you start setting up your Elf on a Shelf. (Whether you cherish those moments late at night posing him around the house or not). While the smiles on your kids’ faces are always worth it, it can definitely be a challenge to keep your Elf on the Shelf ideas fresh and creative for a full 25 days in December.
For those who don’t know, mother-daughter duo and Elf on the Shelf creators Carol Aebersold and Chanda Bell started the Elf on the Shelf phenomenon based on a Christmas tradition they created as a family. The rules are these: Tell your kids that the Elf will report back to Santa every night to say whether they’ve been naughty or nice. After his nightly visit to the North Pole, he returns to a new spot in your home every day. Oh, one more thing — if your kids touch the Elf, all of his Elf magic goes away. Parents, that means it’s up to you to help him find a new mischievous hangout spot every morning. If you get stumped, give these new and funny Elf on the Shelf ideas a try!
First, Adopt Your Elf
Don’t forget to give your new elf a name! That’s half the fun. Once he’s properly named, then he can start his job reporting to Santa at the North Pole each night, and make his official arrival in your home.
Elf on the Shelf in Quarantine
It’s 2020, so of course your elf needs his own face mask. Pose him next to a letter (download it for free here) reminding your kids to wash their hands.
