Puneeth Rajkumar, who died on Friday, will be best remembered as Appu – a name which became synonymous with the Kannada star after his 2002 film in which he played his first lead role. Puneeth Rajkumar was the son of veteran actor Rajkumar and his producer wife Parvathamma. Puneeth Rajkumar, best known for starring in films such as Mourya, Arasu, Raam and Anjani Putra, was a celebrated Kannada star, whose sudden death left the film fraternity shocked. On Friday morning, Puneeth Rajkumar was rushed to a Bengaluru hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest. He died at the age of 46.
Remembering the Kannada star, we browsed through his Instagram and chanced upon some rare throwback photos featuring his parents – Rajkumar and Parvathamma, and other family members. Only last month, Puneeth Rajkumar shared an emotional memory with his father Rajkumar from when they visited the Niagara Falls in 1988 together.
Puneeth Rajkumar was also part of the Gokak agitation – a language rights agitation that took place in the 1980s, which he attended with his father. “Found this picture taken during Gokak Chaluvali,” Puneeth Rajkumar had captioned his post.

Puneeth Rajkumar’s death has sent ripples of grief across the film industry with tributes pouring in from the likes of Chiranjeevi, Mohanlal, Nagarjuna, Mahesh Babu, SS Rajamouli and several Bollywood celebs. PM Narendra Modi mourned the Kannada star in his tweet of condolence and wrote: “A cruel twist of fate has snatched away from us a prolific and talented actor, Puneeth Rajkumar. This was no age to go. The coming generations will remember him fondly for his works and wonderful personality. Condolences to his family and admirers.”
