6 Fall Outfits I’m Stealing From ‘Only Murders in the Building’
[ad_1]
I can’t believe I’m typing this sentence, but I can’t wait for fall. While I’m usually a champion of all things summer, I’m ready to swap my espadrilles for chunky boots and jean shorts for printed slacks. The reason for my excitement is Only Murders in The Building, season two. I love many things about the Hulu comedy — the hodgepodge cast of Martin Short, Steve Martin and Selena Gomez; cheesy one-liners; glimpses of New York architecture, and of course, the suspense of who (?!) is killing all the apartment residents. But the #1 thing that keeps me coming back each week is Selena’s wardrobe. Here are the six looks I’m planning to recreate…
Oversized sweater with knit pants
This fall, I want to channel one word: cozy. And how much cuddlier does it get than a big sweater with knit pants? This ensemble is casual enough for daytime errands but has enough character for a fun lunch or art exhibit. To recreate, I’d wear this fleece sweater with these ribbed pants.
Faux fur coat with flared pants
When someone wears faux fur, they’re shouting into the atmosphere, “I LOVE GLAMOUR AND I DON’T CARE WHO KNOWS IT!” In this look, Selena takes extra to the next level by wearing a cape. But she pairs it with simple flared pants, which keep the outfit from looking costume-y. I’m not a cape woman, so I’d wear this faux fur jacket with flared pants. (Side note: We debated whether this jacket was faux fur or velvet. If you are team velvet, this cute top would work.)
Shirt dress and trench coat
Ok, I know this look is niche, and you might be thinking, ‘I would never wear that.’ But hear me out: Imagine it’s Saturday afternoon, and you have plans to meet up with your favorite friends for a long overdue dinner. Since, let’s be honest, it’s way more exciting to dress up for friends than for significant others, you slip on a shirt dress and trench coat. As you walk through crunching leaves, the golden sunlight bounces off your dress, making you look angelic. You’re the leading lady you were always meant to be. Are you convinced? You guys, let’s all wear this outfit.
Jewel toned blazers
I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again: I’m a sucker for a matching outfits. So, I immediately paused the show when Steve Martin and Selena Gomez appeared in matching plaid blazers. This blazer would do the trick, and this one adds a splash of color. I’d pair any of the above with these jeans and these shoes. If anyone wants to match, give me a holler.
Checkered cardigan with gold accessories
With big buttons and a wide V-neck, a cardigan can give a great grandpa-going-for-a-walk-around-the-neighborhood feel. But, here, pops of neon elevate the vibe to “cool youth who loves grandpa’s timeless style.” What ties the look together are the gold accessories. To recreate, I’d wear this men’s cardigan (they offer the right amount of slouch!), a necklace set and oversized hoops.
Head-to-toe monochrome in autumnal shades
Or just take a cue from Martin Short and pull on clothes of the same color. A monochrome outfit will never fail you; the end result is always effortlessly cool. I’d wear this beaut of a jacket, this blouse, and these pants. If you want to go the green route, pair this top with chinos and sneakers.
