Perfect Australian Getaways for Big Families

If you’ve got a big family, you know how difficult it can be to find a holiday that suits everyone. We’re not just talking about keeping the kids happy here. There are plenty of people who like to take holidays with extended family, so it’s a challenge to please all the sisters, brother, uncles, aunts and kids.

We’ve put together a few ideas for holidays that are great for people of all ages, and they’re sure to put a smile on everyone’s face. If you’re looking for your next big family adventure, here are some awesome options.

First, some things to consider

Firstly, it’s important to think about what you need from a holiday. It’s likely that every member of your touring party isn’t going to be 100% excited with every single activity, and that’s ok. So, let everybody know that there will be something for them along the way.

Also, consider your budget before booking. Holidays are great, but if you spend too much on travel and accommodation, you won’t have enough leftover for all the cool activities you want to do. Now, into the holiday ideas!

Visiting the Gold Coast

The Gold Coast is one of the most popular family holidays in Australia because there’s so many different things to do. The big drawcard of course, is the theme parks. Kids and adults alike can have a ball at Sea World, Dream World and Movie World. But there’s much more to the Gold Coast than just rollercoasters.

The beaches along the coast are incredible, so you can enjoy days relaxing, surfing, or swimming in the pristine blue waters. There’s a plethora of dining options and nightlife, so the adults can let their hair down of an evening. For the shoppers out there, there’s even a huge shopping complex called Pacific Fair which holds over 400 speciality shops. That’s a day out in itself!

A Murray River Cruise

One of Australia’s most iconic holidays is a Murray River cruise. You can choose to depart from Echuca in Victoria or Mannum in South Australia, and also pick how many nights you want to go for. Spend up to 7 nights cruising the beautiful wetlands of the Murray River. There’s even a choice of three different boats – the Murray Princess, the Proud Mary and the PSS Emmylou.

Depending on the size of your touring party, you could even book out a smaller vessel like the Emmylou for yourself. It carries a maximum of 16 passengers, so it’s great for a private getaway. Along the way you’ll visit historic towns, there’s plenty of golf courses, and so much to see that everybody will find something to look forward to.

Rottnest Island, Western Australia

On of Australia’s real gems is Western Australia’s Rottnest Island. It’s great for big families who love the outdoors, and there’s no shortage of activities. With over 65 amazing beaches around the island, kids and adults will love swimming, snorkelling, diving, paddling in a canoe and plenty more. For nature lovers, there’s also plenty of wildlife around, and you may even meet a famous local – the quokka!
