New Delhi:

Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif’s Sooryavanshi is ruling the box office and how. The film, which released last Friday, collected Rs 9.55 crore on Wednesday, reported trade analyst Taran Adarsh. On its opening day, Sooryavanshi earned Rs 26.29 crore, the next day Rs 23.85 crore, on Sunday the collections were Rs 26.94 crore and Monday-Tuesday’s earnings were Rs 14.51 and Rs 11.22 crore, respectively. Due to lack of other major Hindi films at the box office, Sooryavanshi is expected to perform well in its second week too, reported Taran Adarsh. Sharing the film’s box office report, he wrote: “Sooryavanshi packs a STRONG NUMBER on Day 6… Good word of mouth + lack of major #Hindi film this Friday gives it a chance to score in Week 2… Fri 26.29 crore, Sat 23.85 crore, Sun 26.94 crore, Mon 14.51 crore, Tue 11.22 crore, Wed 9.55 crore. Total: Rs 112.36 crore. #India business.”

Sooryavanshi is directed by Rohit Shetty, who is known for his high-octane action films. The recently-released film also stars Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh in cameo roles. For those who don’t know, Akshay Kumar’s lead character Veer Sooryavanshi was first introduced as an Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) officer in a cameo role in Ranveer Singh’s 2018 film Simmba. Ajay Devgn headlined the first two films – the Singham series – in Rohit Shetty’s cop universe.

In his review for NDTV, film critic Saibal Chatterjee gave Sooryavanshi two and a half stars and wrote: “For Akshay Kumar, from Bell Bottom to Sooryavanshi, this performance is no more than a hop and a skip from one set to another. His gait, as always, is a veritable stunt in itself: a cross between a model in the middle of a catwalk and a superhero about to take flight. It is aimed at his fans. If it works for them, who are we to carp?”
