At 24,552 Units, Tata Motors Domestic Sales Drops 38% Month-On-Month In May 2021

Tata Motors announced its monthly auto sales on Tuesday, June 1, reporting 24,552 units sold in May 2021, marking a 38 per cent month-on-month decline in total domestic sales, compared to the previous month of April. Tata Motor’s domestic sales in April 2021 stood at 39,530 units. According to a regulatory filing by the company to the BSE on Tuesday, Tata Motors sales in the domestic and international market for May 2021 stood at 26,661 vehicles. According to the statement, Tata Motors sales of total commercial vehicles (CV) in May 2021 stood at 11,401 units, registering a 32 per cent drop month-month, compared to 16,644 units sold in April 2021. The commercial vehicles sale included passenger carriers, SCV cargo pickup, exports. The exports of commercial vehicles stood at 2,030 units in May 2021, marking an eight per cent drop month-on-month, compared to 2,209 units in April 2021.
Additionally, in terms of the domestic passenger vehicles (PV), Tata Motors registered 15,181 units sold in May 2021, marking a 40 per cent drop month-on-month, compared to 25,095 units sold in April 2021.
“The sequential trajectory in auto sector sales is on a substantial decline in the face of the second Covid wave (no YoY analysis given the complete lockdown in May 2020). Since a large number of states in India had imposed fairly strict lockdowns to contain the threatening rise in infections and mortalities, auto dealerships were either closed or partially operated during the month,” said Mr. Suman Chowdhury, Chief Analytical Officer, Acuité Ratings & Research.
On Tuesday, June 1, shares of Tata Motors settled 0.19 per cent lower at Rs 318.10 per cent apiece on the BSE.
