Actor-comedian Sunil Grover has been discharged from hospital after successful heart surgery – the actor was filmed outside Mumbai’s Asian Heart Institute on Thursday. Hospital authorities said that Mr Grover, 44, suffered a minor heart attack last month and was taken to hospital on January 8, reports news agency ANI. He was also found to be COVID-positive. An angiography done some days later found three arteries blocked after which Mr Grover underwent four bypass surgeries, reports news agency PTI. Sunil Grover was discharged today a week after surgery and had an “uneventful post-operative recovery” per a note from the hospital, PTI reports.
Sunil Grover was taken to the emergency room on January 8 after complaining of chest pain; doctors at Asian heart Institute stabilised him with medicine until the angiogram could be carried out, PTI reports. “Since he has received all arterial grafts using internal mammary arteries his long term results should be good and will be able to lead a normal life in the long term with proper care which should include proper diet, exercise, yoga and medicine. He is a positive person with a bright outlook to life,” Dr Ramakanta Panda said, agencies report.
On Wednesday, news agency PTI reported that Sunil Grover was well on his way to recovery. “He had a heart surgery and the patient is absolutely fine now. He should be discharged soon. We can’t divulge any more information about his health,” a source told PTI.
Fans flooded social media with messages for Sunil Grover’s wellbeing after it was revealed he had surgery. Actress and TV personality Simi Garewal tweeted, “Am shocked that Sunil Grover has had heart surgery. Filling our hearts with laughter and joy at the cost of his own. I pray he recovers fast. He has a formidable talent and I’m a huge fan!!”

Sunil Grover, a household name among TV fans, is best-known for featuring in shows like Comedy Nights With Kapil and The Kapil Sharma Show, where he played characters such as Gutthi and Dr Mashoor Gulati. Mr Grover also starred in Kanpur Wale Khuranas.
Sunil Grover’s film credits include Bharat, starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. Mr Grover starred in Vishal Bhardwaj’s comedy drama Pataakha, co-starring Sanya Malhotra and Radhika Madan. He also had brief roles in Aamir Khan’s blockbuster 2008 film Ghajini, Akshay Kumar’s Gabbar Is Back and The Legend of Bhagat Singh.
Last year, Sunil Grover was seen in the web-series Tandav, headlined by Saif Ali Khan, and as the lead in the comic series Sunflower.
