Eid al Adha Wishes and Greetings for 2023

Eid al Adha is one of the most significant holidays on the Islamic calendar, and is celebrated by millions of Muslims worldwide.

Eid al Adha commemorates the completion of hajj — a pilgrimage to Mecca and its surrounding sites. Every year, in the final month of the Islamic calendar, called Dhul Hijjah, selected Muslims from around the world travel to Mecca, Saudi Arabia in order to make the hajj.

The hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam, meaning it’s one of the top five things a practicing Muslim should do in order to have a connection with God. Hajj is obligatory for every Muslim who can afford to take on the travel expenses for it.

The hajj itself is a series of rituals that follow in the footsteps of the prophets Abraham and Ismail. Muslims believe that Abraham, as instructed by God, built the first house of worship for God to be worshiped in a monotheistic way. That house is the Kaaba in Mecca.

Some of the rituals included in the hajj pilgrimage are to go around the Kaaba in seven, counter-clockwise circles and walking or running seven times between two valley mountains called Safa and Marwa.

The most important ritual of the hajj pilgrimage is standing in an open plain called Arafat, which is located just outside of Mecca. Pilgrims are there from sunrise to just before sunset, standing on the plain and invoking God for all their hearts’ desire. Eid al Adha takes place the very next day after the ritual at Arafat, traditionally with the sacrifice of a sheep or a ram.

Even though the ritual of Arafat is restricted to one geographic location in the world, Eid al Adha is celebrated by Muslims worldwide, wherever they may be. Wish your family and friends Eid al Adha Mubarak with our list of greetings and wishes.
