Many times during and after the season I am asked about The Who’s Who in San Antonio High School football. This “High Five” list is a mix of names you could, would and should know for various positions for the scene down in the 210! So here we go!

Jaylen Gardner – ’23 – Cornerstone Christian (DEFCON TX 7v7)

A 6-3″, 190 pounds the Warriors receiver will be going his opponents headaches the next few years. He possesses size , power and speed and high points the ball well. With a dedicated work ethic and constant striving for improvement in the details of his position, other parts of his game will catch up. Going into his junior year with an Offer from UTSA as a part of his motivation he could be a record breaker. I look forward to seeing the progression of the already talented receiver. There is major potential there.

Ethan Jace Gonzales – ’22 – Stevens (Texas Smoke 7v7)

The 6 foot, 180 pound receiver for the Falcons may have the best hands in the city. With 82 receptions 1,150 yards in his junior year, he will be the most productive receiver returning in the city. He’s a clutch performer and hands catcher of the football. He runs multiple style routes and is a tough tackle for the first defender and he gets upfield immediately. Keeping a busy offseason running with area Team Smoke 7v7 team he will be taking on elite defenders and only getting better.

Nevon Cooper – ’22 – Madison (DEFCON TX 7v7)

The 6ft, 170 pounds and lighting in a bottle. A proven special teams threat and primarily a slot receiver. He is Great in small spaces with his quickness, acceleration and good top end speed. He’s got solid hands and is very dangerous when set in motion. He can be a multifaceted threat for the Mavericks offense and he also plays Cornerback with some regularity. He’s Madison biggest threat with the ball in his hands.

Jamel Criswell – ’22 -Taft

The 6-3, 190 pound is used all over the field for the Taft Raiders. Outside , slot, motion and reverses Jamel does it all and is particularly good at using his frame to gain separation for catches. He blocks well around the line of scrimmage. Good hands and changes direction well for his size. Has good speed and is a physical player who is a solid possession receiver who has some breakout ability.

Anthony Evans III ’23 – Judson (DEFCON TX 7v7)

At 6ft, 165 pounds, Judson Rocket Anthony Evans III acceleration and top end speed is elite for the high school level. A special teams monster returner who’s potential is obvious. He thrives in a return like setting on offense (screens, motion and reverses). He can take the top off the defense. With an expanded route tree and opportunity, Evans could be the most exciting player in San Antonio. An offseason of receiver skill training and playing 7v7 with DEFCON TX Evans should return to Judson primed to be a buzzing name on the recruiting trail.
