Mar. 7—Scores and more from Saturday night’s high school action:

Spring Lake

Girls basketball: Spring Lake completed a season sweep of Holland Christian with a 43-36 victory on the road.

Strong free-throw shooting in the closing stages secured the win for the Lakers after the teams were tied at 32 heading into the fourth quarter.

Meah Bajt and Jennifer Judge had 15 points apiece for Spring Lake, with Judge narrowly missing out on back-to-back double-doubles at nine rebounds. Masen Carey had 10 points for the Lakers, who went 11 for 14 at the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.

Their reward for a move to 5-4 overall is a home game with one of the state’s top teams in West Catholic. Their game Tuesday will tip around 7 p.m.

Boys basketball: A missed 3-pointer at the buzzer was the difference as Spring Lake came close to a big comeback at home. Down 12 entering the fourth quarter, the Lakers ended up on just the wrong side of a 45-42 scoreline.

Kaden George had 14 points for the Lakers, while Jackson Core had six steals for a Spring Lake defense that used full-court pressure to scratch their way back into the game.

A road trip to Grand Rapids West Catholic awaits on Tuesday.

Fruitport-Fruitport Calvary Christian

Boys basketball: 25 points from Bode Anspach highlighted a high-scoring game between two local teams, with the Trojans scratching out a 77-68 win over the Division 4 Eagles.

FCC coach Brad Richards noted his displeasure with his team’s defense, though four Eagles in double figures nearly helped his team pull off a major upset.

Bradley Richards was FCC’s high scorer with an impressive 22-point, 21-rebound performance, while Jacob May was close to a triple-double with 14 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Braden Cohea had 12 points and seven boards, while Braden Swanson added 10 points.

Fruitport travels to Allendale Tuesday, while Calvary finishes a busy stretch with a Monday game against Pentwater.

The Eagles moved to 5-4 on their season with a 31-23 victory over Fruitport on Saturday night.
