This year, the middleweight sports motorcycle category is a two-way fight between the BMW F 900 R and the Triumph Street Triple R. Both models are neck and neck when it comes to performance and features and here’s a quick lowdown on both bikes.

Who doesn’t love a good, solid two-way fight to death? More so, when the combatants in question are two hot and sexy naked middleweight motorcycles like the BMW F 900 R and the Triumph Street Triple R! The bike from Bavaria goes up against the British bomb from Hinckley in the middleweight sports motorcycle category at the 2021 carandbike awards. The motorcycles were thoroughly tested by the jurors at the Buddh International circuit about a week ago and the winner will be revealed at the carandbike awards ceremony on March 19, 2021. But before the announcement is made, we bring you up to speed on both these motorcycles!

The BMW F 900 R is the first model from BMW Motorrad in the naked middleweight segment. It has the right amount brawn needed of a roadster. The exposed engine, fat rear tyre and the aggressive stance give it solid presence. The contrast side panels, sculpted fuel tank and the gold forks add even more muscle. The bike gets an 895 cc parallel-twin engine which is essentially a bored out version of the 853 cc parallel-twin that does duty on the BMW F 850 GS and the F 750 GS. On the F 900 R, it has a bigger, 86 mm bore, with stroke remaining the same at 77 mm. The motor puts out 105 bhp at 8,500 rpm, with peak torque of 92 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The new engine has two balancer shafts to keep vibrations in check and it is a load-bearing member as well. The F 900 R does the 0-100 kmph run in 3.7 seconds and has a top speed of over 200 kmph.

The BMW F 900 R will be offered with a bunch of electronic rider aids. ABS is of course standard and the roadster will get Rain and Road mode along with automatic stability control as standard too.Other standard features include full LED lighting. Like other BMW middleweights, the bike does get optional ‘Pro’ modes along with drag torque control, dynamic traction control, ABS Pro and dynamic brake control as well. The rear end is suspended on a hydraulically adjustable monoshock while the front suspension consists of 43 mm upside down forks. The F 900 R gets twin 320 mm discs along with 4-piston Brembo radial callipers while the rear wheel gets a 265 mm disc with a single piston floating calliper. It is priced at ₹ 10.8 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Sitting below the top-spec Street Triple RS, the Street Triple R is for those who would like to experience the thrill of riding a naked middleweight, and at an affordable price at that. The Street Triple R is similar to the RS in terms of design. The 2020 Triumph Street Triple R makes 116 bhp at 12,000 rpm and 77 Nm of peak torque at 9,400 rpm from the same 765 cc, in-line, three-cylinder engine on the ₹ The rake and trail is slightly different too and the R sports 41 mm Showa USD separate function big piston forks at the front and a Showa piggyback reservoir monoshock at the rear. Braking performance on the new Street Triple R comes from the Brembo M4.32 four-piston Monobloc callipers along with 310 mm twin discs at the front. The rear features a Brembo single piston sliding calliper. The feature list covers all the essentials on the Triumph Street Triple R including a Shift Assist up and down quick-shifter, ride-by-wire with three riding modes – Road, Rain and Sport, as well as ABS and traction control. The Street Triple R is priced at ₹ 8.84 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
