Minersville breaks in track with sweep

Apr. 1—MINERSVILLE — Minersville made a successful debut on it’s new track Wednesday afternoon, sweeping past Mahanoy Area 72-69 in the girls’ meet and 88-43 in the boys’ meet in Schuylkill League Division II track and field action.

Devin Hubler was a double winner for the Minersville girls, placing first in both the long jump and triple jump.

In the boys’ meet, Landon Boyle was a double winner for Minersville, taking the 800 and 1600 runs. For Mahanoy Area, Ben Terry was a triple winner, placing first in the 100 and 200 dashes and triple jump.

POTTSVILLE — Jack Flynn and Mike Reilley were double individual winners for the Spartans in Tuesday’s Division I victory over the Crimson Tide.

Flynn won the 800 and 1600 runs, with Reilley placing first in the high jump and javelin.

For Pottsville, Bobby Walchak won both the 100 dash and 110 high hurdles.

KUTZTOWN — Lexi Thomas went 2-for-2 with a double and a homer in the Blue Raiders’ non-league loss to the Cougars.

Hailey Williams added a triple and Bryn Clifford doubled for Tamaqua, which couldn’t overcome MaKayla Drey’s first-inning grand slam that put Kutztown ahead to stay.

Colts-Raiders game suspended

TAMAQUA — Tamaqua used a pair of big innings to build a 12-5 lead over Marian before the game was suspended due to deteriorating weather conditions with one out in the top of the fourth.

The Colts scored three runs in the first inning and two in the second to take a 5-0 lead before the Blue Raiders scored four times in the bottom of the second and added eight runs in the third.

The game will be resumed at a time and date to be determined.
