Mar. 3—Norwich Free Academy moved to the top of the weekly GameTimeCT top 10 state girls’ basketball poll on Tuesday.

The Wildcats (5-0) supplanted Notre Dame of Fairfield, which suffered a 36-33 loss against Masuk last week when head coach Maria Conlon, a former UConn player, suspended the entire varsity team for an undisclosed violation of school protocols.

NFA, which plays its first game as the state’s No. 1 team on Wednesday at Waterford, received nine first-place votes and had 488 points while ND-Fairfield was second with six first-place votes and 466 points.

The last team to defeat Notre Dame in the regular season was New London on Dec. 29, 2018.

Bacon Academy (2-0), which finishes a 14-day quarantime on Wednesday after a member of the program tested positive for COVID-19, dropped from fifth to seventh. The Bobcats will practice for the first time in two weeks on Thursday, then visit the No. 1 Wildcats on Saturday at 6 p.m. in a game that will be streamed live on theday.com.
