Petrol, diesel price today: Petrol and diesel prices were kept unchanged on Friday, i.e., April 16, 2021 across the four metro cities in the country after petrol prices were reduced by 16 paise per litre after a pause of 15 days. In the national capital, petrol prices were kept steady at Rs 90.40 per litre, while diesel was kept unchanged at Rs 80.73 per litre, according to state-run oil refiner Indian Oil Corporation. In Mumbai, petrol prices were kept unchanged at Rs 96.83 per litre and diesel retailed at Rs 87.81 per litre, according to the state-run oil refiner. Petrol and diesel prices vary across India due to value-added tax (VAT). Currently, Mumbai has the highest price of petrol and diesel per litre in the country. Oil prices held near a one-month high on Thursday following positive U.S. economic data and higher demand forecasts from the International Energy Agency (IEA) and OPEC as countries start to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The IEA and the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries this week made upward revisions to their global oil demand growth forecasts for 2021 to 5.7 million barrels per day (bpd) and 5.95 million bpd respectively.
The state-run oil marketing companies including the Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum align the rates of domestic fuel with the global crude oil rates by taking into account any new changes in foreign exchange rates. New changes in fuel prices are implemented with effect from 6 am every day.
