Selecting Artwork & Wall Decor For A Home Gym
[ad_1]
After making my long punch list of things that still need to be done in the home gym, and reminding myself that I only had six days left to get those things done if I want to meet my goal, I went to visit a friend in the hospital and got virtually nothing done. 😀 I knew when I decided to go that I wasn’t going to get any work done. She’s the type of friend with whom I could sit and talk for hours and hours, and that’s pretty much what I did. So now I’m down to five days, but I do plan to hit the ground running right after lunch today.
I did manage to make all of my selections for the art and wall decor that I’m going to use in the home gym. I didn’t want to spend a whole lot of time making artwork for the room (except maybe a few frames), so I headed to Etsy to see what I could find there.
I wanted to find artwork/decor for three different areas. First, I wanted something for both of the walls of the entrance to the room. And then I wanted something to go in the closet above the TV. I decided that I didn’t want anything on the main part of the room because the colorful stripes are artwork enough for me, and I don’t really want to cover them up. So let me show you what I bought.
First up. I wanted something for the wall to the right as you enter the room.
That is the longest stretch of uninterrupted stripes in the room, and while I love it, I think it could use some artwork to add some variation. So I went looking for gym-themed artwork that didn’t include inspiration messages, wording, etc. I wanted actual pictures (photos, illustrations) of something gym-themed.
Y’all know I’m a big fan of downloadable/printable art. I love the instant gratification of it, as well as the flexibility of it since the downloads generally come with different print size options, and some even come with different color options, just depending on the exact artwork chosen. So I was specifically looking for gym-themed downloadable/printable art.
That’s a pretty narrow niche! 😀 There’s not a whole lot of variety available out there that I liked, but I did come across this series of patent drawings of various types of dumb bells and other exercise equipment.
There are 11 different drawings in the series, and you can find them here.
Next up, I wanted something for the opposite wall, but on this wall, I didn’t want to cover up too much of the stripes.
So that ruled out framed artwork. Instead, I opted for this “You Got This!” cutout. It’s made of 1/4-inch plywood, and I selected the matte black finish.
Like I’ve said before, I generally don’t like word art (unless it’s colorful and covered with awesome cut glass glitter), but a home gym (or any kind of gym) just lends itself to word art, motivational quotes, etc. And I really love the font they used for that cutout. I think it’ll look great in matte black against the colorful stripes, while not covering up too much of the wall design.
And I saved the best for last. I wanted something to go in the closet area above the TV. You’ll have to use your imagination, but just envision a large TV on the wall above the dresser, and two full-length mirrors flanking the dresser.
So here’s what I got to go above the TV…
I mean, come on! Is it really even a gym if you don’t have a neon sign somewhere? 😀 I had been looking at several different Etsy stores that sold neon signs, with various types of motivational sayings. But when I saw this one (you can find it here), I knew it was perfect! It made me laugh out loud for a solid minute.
It’s perfect for our gym because Matt is always (in a loving, joking, lighthearted manner) telling me I’m crazy. I’ll say something like, “This such-and-such and about to drive me crazy!” and he’ll respond with, “It’s too late. You’ve been there for a long time.” 😀 He loves to tease me like that, so when I saw this sign, I knew it would be perfect. Of course, when he sees it, his response will probably be something like, “You’ve got way too much crazy in there to think you can sweat it out.” 😀 But it’ll add to the running joke and make us laugh. I couldn’t resist.
Update: I just told Matt about the neon sign that I bought. His response was, “Oh, well then you’re going to be working out a lot then!” 😀 I knew he wouldn’t disappoint!
Addicted 2 Decorating is where I share my DIY and decorating journey as I remodel and decorate the 1948 fixer upper that my husband, Matt, and I bought in 2013. Matt has M.S. and is unable to do physical work, so I do the majority of the work on the house by myself. You can learn more about me here.
