Senese helps Camels to men’s hockey victory

Mar. 8—NEW HAVEN — Connecticut College broke a 2-2 tie with a four-goal third period and beat Albertus Magnus 6-2 in a men’s hockey game on Sunday.
Steven Senese scored twice in the third period and Greg Pezza and Brett Moccia also scored in the third for the Camels (2-0). Tim Kobler and AJ DiCesare also scored and Cam Fernandez made 32 saves for Conn.
The Camels also beat Albertus 6-2 in its season opener on Saturday. Matt Creamer scored twice and Sean Dynan made 29 saves for Conn while Kobler, Eric Fournier, Seth Stadheim and Moccia also scored.
Women’s hockey
— Connecticut College scored six unanswered goals and beat Becker 6-2. Mairi Anthony and Erin Dillon scored two goals each for the Camels (2-0), who trailed 2-0 after one period. Caitlyn Wilkin and Melanie Conca also scored and Carly Denora made 22 saves.
Conn opened its season with a 5-2 win over Becker on Saturday. Camille Phelan scored twice and Melissa Alaxander, Caroline O’Keefe and Dillon also scored.
H.S. gymnastics
— Emma Field led NFA to a 123.75 win over East Lyme at ABC’s Shoreline Gymnastics in Niantic. Field was second on the beam (8.2) and floor (8.05) and third in all-round (31.55) and vault (8.45).
Kaitlyn Abbey of East Lyme won the all-around with a score of 34.8 and swept the events with 8.9 in vault, 8.5 on bars, 8.8 on beam and 8.6 on floor.
Avery Sulman of Norwich finished second in all-around (32.35), vault (8.5), bars (7.8) and floor (8.35). Brookyn Geida of East Lyme was second in bars and thirds went to Anjali Rana of East Lyme (beam) and NFA’s Ja’Ryee Silva (bars).
College baseball
— Eric Stock scored in the top of the 12th inning and UConn held on to beat Coastal Caorlina 5-4. Stock singled to lead off the inning, advanced to third on a single by Christian Fedko and scored when Reggie Crawford reached on a fielder’s choice, beating a double play attempt by Coastal Carolina. Stock was 3-for-6 and Pat Winkel had two hits and scored twice for UConn (4-5).
Freshman Kevin Ferrer, the former Stonington High standout, hit his first career homer for the Huskies. UConn starter Austin Peterson allowed six hits and three runs over 5.1 innings, striking out eight with one walk. Caleb Wurster (2-0) pitched the final 4.2 innings for the win.
