Tata Motors Launches Founders Edition Of All Its Models; Will Be Sold To Group Employees Only

The special Founders Edition will be offered with the Tiago, Tigor, Altroz, Nexon, and Harrier and it will come with a new logo and a special badge with Tata Motors’ founder, J.R.D Tata’s signature. But, only Tata Group employees can buy these cars.

Home-grown automaker, Tata Motors, has completed 75 years in the Indian market. The company was formed by J.R.D Tata back in 1945 and initially, it made locomotives. Thus to commemorate the anniversary the company has launched special ‘Founders Edition’ version of all its existing models, however, not everyone can buy these cars. Yes, the special edition models of the Tiago, Tigor, Altroz, Nexon, and Harrier, have been exclusively launched for Tata Group employees, and only they can purchase a Founders Edition of the aforementioned models. What’s special about it? well, in addition to some minor tweaks, every Founders Edition car will come with a special badge bearing J.R.D Tata’s signature.

Visually tweaks made to the cars are limited. Upfront all five models with come with a new logo, with a blue background, which is the brand’s signature colour. As for the badge with J.R.D Tata’s signature, all 5 cars get four insignias – one on the front fender above the wheel, one on the C-pillar, one on the tailgate, and the last one the dashboard. The Tata Group employees buying the cars will also get a postcard from the Iconic Series that depicts the brand’s journey along with a photo frame. However, the company hasn’t revealed whether the cars will be exclusive to one variant or can be bought in any trim option.

Mechanically, all cars remain unchanged featuring the same engine and transmission choices. The Tiago and Tigor come with a 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and an optional AMT unit. The Altroz gets a pair of 1.2-litre petrol engines, one naturally aspirated and the other is a turbocharged unit, along with a 1.5-litre diesel engine. All three are mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. As for the Nexon, it gets a 1.2-litre turbo petrol motor, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine, both paired with a 6-speed manual, or an optional AMT unit. The Harrier, on the other hand, gets a 2.0-litre diesel engine with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic unit.

Earlier, towards the end of January 2021, the company also launched a special edition model of the Tata Tiago, which is available for all customers. Based on the XT variant of the car, the Tata Tiago Special Edition model featured black alloy wheels and a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It was launched at ₹ 5.79 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) ₹ 30,000 more than the standard XT variant of the Tiago.
