Bloomfield Township, Mich. | $799,900
A Colonial Revival house built in 1925, with three bedrooms, two full bathrooms and two half bathrooms, on a 0.85-acre lot
This house is one of the oldest in Bloomfield Village, a one-square-mile section of Bloomfield Township established in the 1920s. The sellers have spent the last four years renovating the house, modernizing the bathrooms and adding new appliances to the kitchen, while retaining the original red-brick facade and interior details.
Cranbrook House and Gardens, designed in 1908 by Albert Kahn, is about a half a mile away, as is the Saarinen-designed Cranbrook Art Museum, which also houses the Cranbrook Academy of Art. Detroit is about half an hour away by car; Ann Arbor is a 45-minute drive.
Size: 2,708 square feet
Price per square foot: $295
Indoors: The house is set back from the street, with a winding path that cuts through the front lawn. Set beneath a classic Colonial Revival pediment, the front door opens to an entryway with its original 1920s tile and patterned wallpaper.
A second door, with an original crystal doorknob, leads to the foyer. To the left is a formal living room with windows facing the front and side yards. To the right is to a formal dining room with more windows and a crystal chandelier.
A butler’s pantry and a built-in breakfast nook with black-and-white floors connect the dining room to the kitchen, which has a Wolf range and built-in cabinets painted white. Off the kitchen is a family room with a brick-framed fireplace in the corner, a bay of windows and doors out to the backyard. Also on this level are a hall closet and a half bathroom.
Wide wood stairs lead to the second floor, which has an open landing that looks down over the foyer. To the right is the primary suite: The bedroom has a deep closet, and the bathroom, updated during the recent renovation, has a glass-encased frameless shower and a dual vanity.
Across the landing are two guest rooms, each large enough to hold a queen-size bed, and one with built-in bookshelves. Between them, an updated bathroom has a pedestal sink and Art Deco-inspired lighting.
The basement is finished, with a laundry room and a half bathroom.
Outdoor space: The grounds are nearly an acre, with mature landscaping and neat rows of hedges that wrap around the house. The attached garage holds two cars.
Taxes: $14,004 (estimated), plus a $23 monthly homeowner association fee

Lumberville, Pa. | $799,995
An 1845 farmhouse with three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms, on a 0.2-acre lot
Lumberville is a quaint village on the Delaware River, about 20 minutes from New Hope, Pa. Much of the main street is part of the Lumberville Historic District, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. The two main hot spots are the general store, where residents can enjoy lunch and pick up their mail, and Black Bass Hotel, built in 1745 and restored in the late 2000s.
Outdoor activities in the area are mostly centered around the river, lined with walking and biking paths and dotted with bridges that connect Pennsylvania to New Jersey. Many of the homes are owned by locals, although proximity to Philadelphia (about an hour away) and New York City (about two hours) makes the area attractive to second-home buyers.
Size: 2,081 square feet
Price per square foot: $384
Indoors: This house is on one of Lumberville’s main roads, separated from the street by a white picket fence. The main entrance, flanked by flowering bushes, leads to a sunny living room with hardwood floors, built-in bookshelves and a wood-burning fireplace. One of the home’s best features is its abundance of river views — present here through two large windows facing the water.
The hardwood floors continue into a dining room with light blue walls above white wainscoting. The peach-colored kitchen, which connects to this room, also has an exterior entrance. Off one side of the kitchen are a powder room and a staircase to the second floor.
At the top of the stairs is one of this level’s three cozy bedrooms, with sloped ceilings and hardwood floors. The en suite bathroom has a stall shower and a window set at the base of one of the low walls.
Next door is a guest room with a ceiling fan and room for a full-size bed; across the hall is a third bedroom currently used as a home office. These bedrooms share a coral-tiled bathroom with a wood vanity.
Stairs between the kitchen and dining room lead to the lowest level, which has a private entrance off the back porch. Used as a study by the seller, it has a fireplace with a river-rock surround and wood mantel, and ample space for bookshelves and a desk. A full bathroom and a laundry room are also on this level.
Outdoor space: The screened-in back porch is large enough to function as an outdoor dining room when the weather permits, and is an ideal spot from which to enjoy views of the river and, across the water, the parklands in New Jersey. The good-sized backyard is gently sloped, and at street level is a driveway that holds three cars.
Taxes: $7,080 (estimated)

This condominium is in a brick complex on a residential block of the Petworth neighborhood, surrounded by a mix of apartment buildings, rowhouses and single-family homes. It is a few blocks from Georgia Avenue, the neighborhood’s main thoroughfare. A park and community center with a playground and indoor fitness center is less than half a mile away; a section of Rock Creek Park with a tennis complex that includes a stadium and smaller indoor and outdoor courts is a five-minute drive. The Georgia Avenue-Petworth Metro station is about a mile and a half away, with trains that take commuters downtown in about 15 minutes.
Size: 2,330 square feet

Indoors: The entrance is set behind a low fence, on a stoop up a flight of steps from street level.
The open living area on the main level has hardwood floors, high ceilings with recessed lights and large windows that look out over the neighborhood. Behind an area intended to hold a dining table is a kitchen with stainless-steel appliances and a granite-topped breakfast bar, as well as a family room with a fireplace, a balcony and space for a second table.
Off the kitchen is a half bathroom; opposite is a staircase to the second floor of the unit, which is the top floor of the building. To the right of the landing is the spacious primary suite, which has a walk-in closet and a window-facing alcove that could hold a desk or a chaise longue. The bathroom has two vanities with bowl-style sinks and a large walk-in shower.
Two guest rooms are also on this level, each with an en suite bathroom. One of the bathrooms has a tiled shower and a pedestal sink; the other has a combination bathtub and shower. A closet off the hallway holds a washer and dryer.
Outdoor space: The small balcony off the family room could hold a cafe table and two chairs, and has views of the mostly low-rise neighborhood rooftops. This unit comes with one parking spot in a gated lot; an additional spot is available for rent.
