FeRita Carter, vice president for student services at Riverside City College, in California, has been named interim president.
Richard C. Daniel, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Education Forward Arizona, has been named president of South Mountain Community College, in Arizona.
Helen K. Lafferty, a professor in the department of education and counseling and former university vice president at Villanova University, in Pennsylvania, has been named interim president of Youngstown State University, in Ohio.
Rick MacLennan, a former president of North Idaho College, has been named chancellor of the Ventura County Community College District, in California.
Robert J. Matz, acting executive vice president at Hannibal-LaGrange University, has been named president.
Rosie Rimando-Chareunsap, president of South Seattle College, has been named interim chancellor of the Seattle Colleges system.
Mark A. Sorrells, senior vice president for academic and student services at Fayetteville Technical Community College, in North Carolina, has been named president. He will succeed J. Larry Keen, who plans to retire.
Sylvia Trent-Adams, executive vice president and chief strategy officer at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, has been named president.
Mary H. Van Brunt, provost and vice president for academic affairs at Gwynedd Mercy University, in Pennsylvania, has been named president of Spring Hill College, in Alabama. She will be the first woman to serve as president of the college.
Resignations
Nancy Cable, chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Asheville, will step down at the end of the year. Kimberly van Noort, interim provost at the university, will become interim chancellor.
Samuel L. Stanley Jr., president of Michigan State University, has announced his resignation.
Retirements
Scott Bierman, president of Beloit College since 2009, plans to retire at the end of the academic year.
Frank Chong, president since 2012 of Santa Rosa Junior College, in California, plans to retire in the summer of 2023.
Gayle E. Hutchinson, president of California State University at Chico since 2016, plans to retire at the end of the academic year.
Luis Sanchez, president of Oxnard College, in California, will retire at the end of January. He is under investigation for allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct.

DEATHS
Warren J. Baker, a president emeritus and second longest-serving leader of California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo, died on October 7. He was 84.
Ronald Filson, former dean of the School of Architecture at Tulane University, died on October 9. He was 75.
Leonard Kriegel, a writer who taught at the City College of New York and served as director of its Center for Worker Education, died on September 25. He was 89.
Genevieve E. Matanoski, an epidemiologist and the longest-serving faculty member at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, died on October 2. She was 92.
Franklin S. Odo, a lecturer and former visiting professor of American institutions and international diplomacy at Amherst College, died on September 28. He was 83. Odo also served as the founding director of the ethnic studies program at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa.
Dean Elwood Tollefson, a former vice president at the Kansas City Regional Council for Higher Education, died on September 16. He was 90. Tollefson also served as executive director of the Union of Independent Colleges of Art and taught philosophy at Pikes Peak Community College, in Colorado.
James E. Wright, who served as president of Dartmouth College from 1998 to 2009, died on October 10. He was 83.
