Pandemic forces cancellations, forfeits for area teams

Mar. 19—MACCRAY was forced to forfeit Thursday’s Section 3A-North boys basketball game against Minneota due to COVID-19 protocols.
The Wolverines were the five seed in the sub-section while the Vikings were the fourth seed. The game was set to take place in Minneota.

Now, the Vikings will take on Thursday’s winner between No. 1 Lac qui Parle Valley and No. 8 Dawson-Boyd at 7 p.m. Saturday at the high seed.
MACCRAY concludes the 2021 season with an 8-11 record.

On Monday, No. 10 Yellow Medicine East (0-18) forfeited its Section 3A-North play-in game against No. 7 Wabasso. The Rabbits play No. 2 Central Minnesota Christian in the sub-section quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Thursday.

In Section 6A-South, No. 7 Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg (6-13) forfeited its play-in game against No. 10 Ortonville, scheduled for Tuesday in Kerkhoven. The Trojans take on No. 2 Hancock at 7 p.m. Thursday in the sub-section quarterfinals.

In girls basketball, the Section 3AA-North quarterfinal matchup between No. 4 Minnewaska (6-11) and No. 5 Paynesville (5-11) was canceled after a double forfeit. As a result, No. 1 New London-Spicer has a bye in the sub-section semifinals and will play the winner of No. 2 Litchfield and No. 6 Morris/Chokio-Alberta in the sub-section championship game Monday in New London.
