Mar. 28—The University of Jamestown men’s soccer team nearly overcame a two-goal deficit in the second half Saturday at the UJ turf field.
But visiting NCAA Division III Concordia College, Minnesota, had other plans, receiving a game-winning goal by Brendan Koplin in the 96th minute as the Cobbers defeated the Jimmies 4-3 in overtime.
Concordia doubled up UJ 10-5 on shots on goal, leaping ahead 2-0 after 65 minutes. Jamestown rallied to level the score at 2-2 with second-half goals booted home by Eric Fairtlough and Aaron Pike, before tallies by Concordia’s Telvin Vah (80th) and UJ’s Henrik Romahn (84th) sent the match to an extra frame.
UJ will conclude the regular season Wednesday at Presentation College before traveling to face No. 25 Hastings College on April 10 in the quarterfinals of the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament.
