Volkswagen Taigo Coupe SUV Teased For The European Market

Volkswagen has revealed the name of its new crossover and it’ll be called the Taigo. The company has revealed sketches of the car ahead of its official European premiere. The Taigo is a new addition to Volkswagen’s range of SUVs in the small vehicle segment. While we get to see only the sketches of the car, we can see that there’s a bit of aggression on the face and there’s no doubt it looks sporty either. The coupe like styling is all but familiar because we’ve seen it on the Nivus, which the company launched in Brazil.

The Taigo is based on the Nivus and will be manufactured for the European market in Pamplona, Spain. In Europe, it will be launched with economical TSI engines, LED headlights as standard, a modern operating concept, a fully digital cockpit and a multitude of assist systems. Volkswagen says that it will come with a multitude of assistance systems and state-of-the-art connectivity.

The Taigo is based on the Nivus Coupe SUV launched in Brazil 

The Nivus Coupe SUV is positioned between Polo and T-Cross in the Brazilian market. The Nivus Coupe SUV is based on the company’s MQB A0 platform. It features a bold grille up front sporting restyled LED headlamps, integrated DRLs and a new vertically-stacked fog lamps. The visual appearance of the car is highlighted by the blacked-out grille and bumper giving a rugged look. It also gets nice glossy black finish surrounding the LED taillights giving a sporty look to the SUV. The top-end model gets 17-inch wheels. Dimension-wise, it comes with a length of 4,266mm, width of 1,757mm and height of 1,493mm, while the wheelbase stands at 2,566mm.

For the Brazilian market the Coupe SUV comes powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The mill is capable of generating 128bhp against the peak torque of 200Nm. The engine comes mated with a six-speed torque converter automatic, transmitting power to the front wheels.
