Brookfield softball sweeps Chalker in doubleheader; Nicholson fans 16, gives up 1 hit in opener

Apr. 4—SOUTHINGTON, Ohio — The Brookfield High softball team swept Chalker, 6-0 and 10-3, in a doubleheader Saturday.

In the opener, Miranda Nicholson fired a complete-game 1-hitter with 16 strikeouts and only issued 1 walk.

Offensively for Brookfield, Jenae Pugh had 3 singles, drove in a run and scored twice, Sophia Hook ripped 2 singles and drove in a pair, Grace Schultz and Izzy Shingledecker both had RBI singles, and Abby DeJoy doubled.

Mia Russomanno had Chalker’s only hit, a single. Aleeyah Peck (4 innings) and N. Piecuch split time on the mound for the Wildcats. They combined for 5 strikeouts, 3 walks, and gave up 9 hits.

In game 2, Schultz went the distance on the mound for Brookfield. She fanned 8 batters, issued no walks, and only allowed 5 hits.

Peck and N. Piecuch pitched for Chalker. They struck out 3, walked 3, and gave up 9 hits.

At the plate for the Lady Warriors, Schultz homered, singled, and drove in 2 runs, DeJoy doubled and singled, drove in a pair of runs and scored twice, Autumn Sirochman doubled and singled and scored twice, Pugh ripped a 2-run double, and Arianna Jones added an RBI single.

At the dish for Chalker, Peck collected a pair of hits and an RBI, Livia Rhodes had a 2-run single, and G. Nieves doubled.
