New Delhi:

Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi is in the news and for all the right reasons. The trailer of the much-awaited film is scheduled to release on Friday (February 4). And, hours before the world gets to witness the story of the menacing madame of Kamathipura, actor Ajay Devgn has dropped his first look poster from the film. The actor, who plays a pivotal role in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie, is seen posing by a car, dressed in a crisp shirt, pants and a blazer thrown over his shoulder. He is also wearing a cap and sunglasses and looks like he means serious business.

In the caption, Ajay Devgn declared, “Apni pehchaan se chaar chaand lagane, aa rahe hai hum (I am coming to add to the glory with my identity). Trailer out tomorrow,” tagging Alia Bhatt, who plays the titular role in the film.

Hum Qureshi cheered for Ajay Devgn’s look in the comments section while Ranveer Singh simply wrote, “Power,” with heart and fire emojis.

On Wednesday, Alia Bhatt shared her poster on Instagram and also announced the trailer release date. In the poster, she is dressed in a white saree, reclining on a cot. “Aa Rahi Hai Gangu. Trailer out on 4th February…” she said in the caption.

Gangubai Kathiawadi marks Ajay Devgn’s second collaboration with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The actor and director are reuniting after almost two decades. Their previous collaboration –  the 1998 film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam – was a huge success.

Interestingly, Gangubai Kathiawadi is also Ajay Devgn’s second collaboration with Alia Bhatt. The two will also be seen together in RRR directed by SS Rajamouli. RRR was scheduled to release in January, this year but was postponed due to a rise in COVID-19 cases.

Gangubai Kathiawadi too was postponed previously due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Now, the film will be released in theatres on February 25. This was reiterated by both Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in their Instagram posts. The film is expected to have its world premiere at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival, set to commence on 10 February. Sanjay Leela Bhansali said in a statement, “The story of Gangubai Kathiawadi has been very close to my heart and me and my team have given it all to make this dream possible. We take pride and honour in showcasing our film at the prestigious Berlin International Film Festival.”

Gangubai Kathiawadi is adapted from one of the chapters of author Hussain Zaidi’s book Mafia Queens of Mumbai. In addition to directing the film, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is also co-producing the biopic with Jayantilal Gada.
