The Toronto Maple Leafs placed rookie forward Nick Robertson on the NHL’s COVID-19 protocol list on Wednesday.
It’s believed to be a precautionary measure, made in response to a positive test unearthed with the Maple Leafs’ AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies.
Robertson has spent most of the season with the Marlies, having only been promoted recently in response to transactions made earlier in the week in the lead-up to the NHL’s trade deadline.
Robertson logged over nine minutes in the Maple Leafs’ 3-2 loss to the Calgary Flames on Tuesday night.
There isn’t a whole lot of information surrounding the situation with the Marlies other than the fact that facilities have been shut down for a week, and several games postponed.
In an unrelated situation, Maple Leafs forward William Nylander has been on the league’s COVID-19 list now for eight days. He practiced with the team before a close contact was discovered.
It’s unknown if Nylander contracted the virus.
Elsewhere in the league, several members of the Vancouver Canucks have now been removed from the COVID-19 list, while Colorado Avalanche starting netminder Philipp Grubauer was added on Wednesday.
