OnePlus Nord CE officially announced: Slimmer, speedy and just

(Pocket-lint) – OnePlus has unveiled its latest Nord-branded phone: the Nord CE. Even before the announcement, we knew some details of the newest member of the OnePlus family, thanks to the company sticking to its tradition of drip-feeding details to build anticipation for the launch event.
We know it’s called the OnePlus Nord CE 5G, and that it’s coming to the UK and Europe. CE stands for ‘Core Edition’, with the aim to strip down the Nord experience to its essentials. Keeping what’s needed, and discarding what isn’t, all at a price that’s lower than the first one.
What that means in reality is that the phone has a 4500mAh battery (up from 4115mAh in the first Nord), but still equipped with Warp Charge 30T tech that enables 0-70 per cent in 30 minutes.
OnePlus calls it Warp Charge 30T Plus, because it fills up the same percentage of a larger battery in the same time as the previous phone did with the smaller battery.
One questionable decision was getting rid of the alert switch which has been something of a mainstay on OnePlus phones this past couple of years. However, there is a 3.5mm port again, so you can use your wired headphones and headsets if you want to.
It comes in three colours: Blue Void, Charcoal Ink and Silver Ray. The first of those has an attractive, frosted finish, and the design is very reiminiscent of the original Nord with a pill-shaped camera housing. Still, it’s thinner than the original, and lighter too.
Inside there’s a Snapdragon 750G 5G processor to keep things running smooth, helped further by up to 12GB RAM and up to 256GB of storage. As far as combinations go you’ll be able to buy 6GB/128GB, 8GB/128GB or 12GB/256GB versions, depending on your needs for memory.
As for display: that’s a 90Hz AMOLED fullHD+ panel that measures 6.43-inches. In that regard it’s similar to the first model, except this only has a single punch-hole for the selfie camera.
OnePlus has also announced that the Nord CE 5G will come with a triple camera setup led by a 64-megapixel primary camera too. The third camera is a low resolution monochrome sensor. It also has a 119-degree ultrawide camera, and – on the front – a 16MP selfie camera.
AI scene detection adjust settings depending on what you’re trying to shoot. As you’d expect from any modern smartphone camera. OnePlus promises great colours and detail.
OnePlus Nord CE comes in cheaper than its predecessor too, with a price starting at €299/£299 in Europe/UK. It will be available to buy from 21 June from OnePlus direct and carrier partners. Community members will get the chance to pre-order it immediately from today.
