Vanessa Beasley, vice provost for academic affairs, dean of residential faculty, and an associate professor of communication studies at Vanderbilt University, has been named president of Trinity University, in Texas.
Alison Buckley, vice president for enrollment management and student affairs at Connecticut State Community Colleges, has been named president of Ulster County Community College, in the State University of New York system.

Resignations
Lawrence S. Bacow, president of Harvard University since 2018, plans to step down on June 30, 2023.
George Burnett, president of the University of Phoenix since February, has resigned.
Damián J. Fernández, president of Eckerd College, in Florida, will step down this summer after two years in office.
John Kelly, president of Florida Atlantic University, plans to step down at the end of the year.
Mirta Martin, president of Fairmont State University, in West Virginia, has been removed from her position by the Board of Governors. Diana Phillips, provost and vice president for academic affairs, has been named acting president.
Joyce McConnell, president of Colorado State University at Fort Collins since 2019, will step down at the end of the month.

Retirements
Eric Kandel, a professor of brain science, co-director of the Zuckerman Institute, and founding director of the Kavli Institute for Brain Science at Columbia University, plans to retire on August 31.
DEATHS
Sophie Freud, a professor of psychology at Simmons College (now University) and granddaughter of Sigmund Freud, died on June 3. She was 97.
The Rev. Michael J. Himes, a former professor of theology at Boston College, died on June 10. He was 75.
David Jarmolowicz, an associate professor of applied behavioral science at the University of Kansas, died on May 22. He was 45.
Browne C. Lewis, dean of the School of Law at North Carolina Central University, died on June 2. Information on her age was not released.
Samella Lewis, an artist and former head of the art department at Florida A&M University, died on May 27. She was 99. Lewis was the first Black woman to receive a Ph.D. in fine arts and art history at Ohio State University.
John Merriman, a professor of history at Yale University, died on May 22. He was 75. Merriman wrote several books on French history, including The Dynamite Club: How a Bombing in Fin-de-Siècle Paris Ignited the Age of Modern Terror (2009).
Sharon Oster, the first woman to become a tenured professor in the School of Management at Yale University and the first woman to serve as dean of the school, died on June 20. She was 73.
Anthony O. Parker, president of Albany Technical College since 1995, died on June 6.
Evelyn Perloff, a professor emerita of psychology in the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, died on May 26. She was 101. Perloff also served as the sole woman professor in the psychology department at Purdue University in the 1960s.
Rosemary Radford Ruether, a theologian who taught at Howard University and Harvard Divinity School, died on May 21. She was 85.
Constantine J. Sakles, a retired professor of psychiatry and pharmacology at the University of Maryland Medical School, died on May 25. He was 87.
