Activities you can do when on a long layover

Being stuck in an airport can be a rather boring task and one that many would hope that they avoid, however there are certain times where it is impossible to avoid it, such as when taking connecting flights across the world.

A long layoff can be completed in a number of various ways, though, and for those that are unable to fall asleep in a seat until they are required to board their next flight, there is plenty of fun that can be had whilst waiting around.

Make a phone call

If the time zone allows for the opportunity to do so, one way to kill time is to call a friend or a family member when stuck in an airport. This is a great way to keep boredom from setting in, whilst it is also a period of downtime that you may not necessarily have when not travelling, so it could be wise to try and make the most of it whilst you have it.

Find a comfy chair to take a seat at and dial the number of the person you want to speak to. If they do not answer, then go on to someone else.

Of course, phone calls and face chats are not always something everyone is comfortable with making when in public or even at the best of times, but with so many different messaging platforms available, perhaps these communication methods can be used instead to kill a little boredom instead.

Game online

With all of the technology that is available to us at the touch of our fingertips, there is ample opportunity to play a number of games online with friends or via other means.

Mobile gaming has come on leaps and bounds with the latest technology available to use, with smartphones and tablets all featuring the ability for gamers to play their favorite games, whether we are talking about shooter games, sports game, RPG or even playing online casino games from the most popular such as blackjack or roulette to the new ones such as Monopoly, Let It Ride or Live Baccarat.

There is no doubt that this is one of the best ways to kill any long layover times that may have to be experienced.

Watch something online

With so many different streaming resources available to individuals who have handheld devices such as smartphones and tablets, it could be argued that it is almost impossible to get bored whilst on a long layover at an airport. Indeed, whilst the actual experience might not be the most enjoyable when stuck in an airport, the fact that you can watch pretty much anything you want via your fingertips should mean boredom can never settle in.

Whilst you may want to put your headphones on so nobody else can hear what you are watching, you can still immerse yourself into your favorite film or TV series, or even just catch up with the latest that is available on YouTube.

Explore

Depending on the size of the airport in which the long layover takes place, you can simply kill a lot of time by going on a tour of it and by looking at everything that it has to offer.

This could be by going around the vast number of shops that they have – where you could potentially end up buying yourself something as a treat for having to undergo the long layover – or you can go and check out a number of different restaurants and spend some time tasting different foods that you may not have been able to experience anywhere else.

Read a book

Perhaps not the most enjoyable activity on this list, however reading a book or a magazine may be something that helps to make the time being spent in the airport fly by a little quicker. It could be a book about the destination that you are travelling to, or it could just be a thrilling nonfiction novel that has you gripped from the first page.

Indeed, with so many options to choose from, there are a number of different activities that can be undertaken when on a long layover at an airport.
