There’s no question that Heidi Klum is the Queen of Halloween. The multi-hyphenate star is known for her modeling, hosting and judging talents, but she really shines in the spooky season. Back in 2000, Heidi hosted her very first Halloween party with a star-studded guest list. Each year, the bash gets bigger and better, but it’s the celebrity Halloween costumes that really get everyone talking. While all of the party’s attendees fully commit to the cause with clever, Instagram-worthy costumes, Heidi continues to outdo herself with the most dramatic, downright outrageous costumes possible.
Just when you think she’s done it all, she pulls out another party trick: Some years she’s spent 10 hours in the prosthetics chair to look like a flesh-eating alien, other times she’s arrived on horseback. Since 2017, she’s been joined by her husband Tom Kaulitz in a number of couple’s costumes, everything from Shrek and Fiona to an astronaut and alien duo. Even last year in the height of the pandemic, she found a way to get creative at home, transforming her husband and four children into a toilet paper mummy family.
Although it’s too early to tell what she’ll do this year, take a look at Heidi’s Halloween costumes through the years, dating all the way back to her inaugural party in 2000. Who knows, you may even find some inspiration for your 2021 look!
2020: Quarantine Halloween
She may not have been able to throw her annual Halloween bash, but Heidi still managed to win the holiday last year. She recruited her husband and four kids to put together a hilarious mini horror flick. In the five-minute video, Heidi attempts to hide from her family with the help of some body paint, transforming into a wall and bed sheets.
2020: Toilet Paper Mummies
Heidi’s children — Leni, 16, Henry, 15, Johan, 13, and Lou, 11 — got head-to-toe zombie-mummy makeovers for the short film. “We had so much fun shooting this together,” Heidi told Vogue. “My kids learned so much in these two days of filming about how some tricks work, how to move and act like mummies, how to remember their lines and cues. Even though they have come to visit me on many sets over the years, this is the first time they have participated.”
2019: Flesh-eating Alien
The supermodel partnered up with husband Tom Kaulitz for this gory, out-of-this-world look. Her entire costume came together with 10 hours of prosthetics and makeup, which she shared during her Amazon livestream.
2019: A Firework
For her first costume of the season, the model transformed herself into a firework, complete with a glittery face and green hair. She was joined by her husband in a matching ensemble.
2018: Fiona from “Shrek”
After she gave fans a sneak peek at her costume on Instagram, many thought she was going to be George Washington or Gungan from Star Wars. But the beauty won Halloween by dressing as Fiona from the movie Shrek. Tom completely nailed his own Shrek look.
2017: Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”
You can’t celebrate Halloween without busting out a “Thriller” dance. She brought the 1982 music video to the streets of New York City in this nearly-identical Michael Jackson outfit.
2016: Heidi Klum
You know you’re a big deal when you dress as yourself for Halloween. Yes, really. Heidi arrived at her 2016 party in her Victoria’s Secret best with an army of lookalikes.
2015: Jessica Rabbit
Va-va-voom. Inspired by the leading lady in Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, Heidi enhanced her figure with prosthetics, bold makeup and a curve-hugging red dress.
2014: Butterfly
Um, did we just take a trip to Cirque de Soleil?! Heidi waltzed through the streets of New York City in this bold and beautiful butterfly costume, massive wingspan included.
2013: Old Lady
The details on this Granny costume are everrrrrything. She used makeup and prosthetics to age her skin with varicose veins and wrinkles.
2012: Cleopatra
Now there’s the Heidi we know and love! She let her natural beauty shine in this dramatic Cleopatra costume, complete with a gilded gold headdress.
2011: Human Body
Talk about commitment. At her first Halloween party of 2011, she dressed as “the Visible Women” and had men dressed as surgeons wheel her out on a gurney.
2011: Ape
A few days later, Heidi and Seal did a complete 180 in this head-to-toe hairy costume. They leaned on prosthetics for a life-like ape look.
2010: Robot
Kudos to Heidi for walking down an entire red carpet on stilts. Oh, and for covering her entire body in purple latex.
2009: Crow
What’s better than one crow? A whole murder of ’em! Seal matched his then-wife in this intricate, feathered costume. To no one’s surprise, the model admitted that the beak and wings made dancing, drinking and eating nearly impossible.
2008: Hindu Goddess
She took a cultural shift in 2008 when she dressed as Kali, the Hindu goddess of death and time. This blue, multi-armed costume was a showstopper (and still is TBH).
2006: The Forbidden Fruit
Heidi, is that you? In a year overrun by Charlie’s Angels costumes, Klum went to the Bible for inspiration for her Eve and the Forbidden Fruit costume. In case you were wondering, Seal dressed as Eve.
2005: Vampire
Is she dressed as Cher? A vampire? Well, she may as well be a cross between the two in this vampy getup.
2004: Witch
Because every witch needs her own broomstick along with a skeleton hanging on to her for dear life, right?
2003: Golden Girl
Okay, so she’s not quite Betty White’s style of Golden Girl. The model gave off major gladiator vibes in this metallic gold number.
2002: Betty Boop
The lashes! The curls! The cigarette holder! She wore a silky ensemble to become everyone’s favorite animated flapper.
2001: Lady Godiva
Now, this is an entrance. Heidi let her hair down for this over-the-top ensemble inspired by English folklore.
2000: Dominatrix
It kind of looks like the America’s Got Talent judge raided her angsty teenage closet. Or her local Hot Topic. Something’s telling us she didn’t do either to create this leather-clad look for her first Halloween bash.
